Cambodian Visa on Arrival or E-Visa?

Featured Replies

Hi,

We are arriving in Cambodia at the end of the month from Thailand via the Aranyaprathet-Poipet border crossing. When we booked our tickets into Cambodia we were warned about visa scams at land borders coming into Cambodia and we were just wondering how much we really need to worry about these? Are we better off getting e-visas beforehand or will we be fine to get visas on arrival? We are British citizens with UK passports. Oh and one more thing, are we likely to be asked for proof of adequate funds?

Thanks,

Jon

E visas save queueing for a visa on arrival and make sure that you aren't overcharged at the border. Much more convenient but make sure that the border post accepts them.

Poipet always accepted my E visa when I did my sometimes in/out on my multi 0.

There should be no reason that has changed.

Are you spending time in Cambo' or doing in/out?

Reason I ask is that Poipet have stopped same day in/out.

The three times i have done a visa Border run to Cambodia it was with a Border run service from Bangkok and there was a preset charge for the whole trip (transportation and all) which inclided the Cambodian visa at the Border in the package.

Not now at Poipet.

I don't think the OP is talking about an in/out just leaving Thailand to spend time in Cambo'.

That's why I posted my question.

In all honesty I would suggest a cheap flight and miss out on the white knuckle mini van ride.

I did it once. Never again.

E visa is easy but pick the correct site and pay 30 not 90 dollars.

Thanks for all the advice. We are spending one week in Cambodia. I took the first person to reply's advice and we've just applied for E-visas. Seems the easiest way and means we've got an extra passport photo for when we apply for our Thai tourist visas! Do you know if it's likely that they'll ask for proof of funds at the border?

The couple of times I've flown in I have never been asked.

Seriously, have look at cheap flights from Bangkok to Cambo'.

You might be surprised how cheap they can be. A lot more comfortable, beat 3 or 4 hours travelling in a minivan driven by someone who wants home as quickly as possible.

We did look at flights and they were a fair bit more expensive than getting the bus. Thanks again for all the advice.

I crossed the same border myself last month just say no if someone approaches you on the Thai side, paid an extra $2 us plus the $20 and my visa was processed in around 10 minutes
