My mrs has been living in the UK for 8 years now (From Thailand). She has her ILR. I just found out she is now supposed to have a BRP if she wants to work, how does she get one?

Is it the NTL form she needs to fill in ? Does she send it off directly to the homeoffice or does she need to go to a post office to have her finger prints scannned and give them the form to send off with her finger print???

Thanks

i should have said[unless its been changed] as long as she has ILR in her thai passport that is enough to enable her to work.

She has a NI card, but it has all changed now, you need a BRP to get a job, apparantly it changed in March 2015 lol. We can't afford to get her a british passport, its about £1,000 lol

If she has ILR it should be straightforward to get. Or not...

Sadly that doesn't tell me how to apply for one after you've been in the UK, I know If you come into the UK you get all the info sent to you via post and you have to register it within 2 weeks of your arrival into the UK.

On that link you gave it says "if you make your application in the UK by post we will send you a letter after we have received your application, you will be able to enrol your biometric information at some post office branches",

BUT the thing is you need a biometric enrolement notification letter to actually apply at the post office lol,  we have never been sent one.

I can't find anywhere online for the BRP application form to download?

What do you mean by BRP?

When my missus got ILR she got a biometric residency permit. She had to go to the post office to get her biometrics done and then was issued with the card. Don't think there was any entry in the passport. When we came into the UK, she showed Thai passport and the card.

BRP = Biometric residency permit

The BRP only came in during 2015, so anyone who got ILR before 2015 does not have one, but they still need to get one if they are applying for a job now. My wife had her ILR years before the BRP came in so she does not have it, she is going for a job and they have asked for the BRP, so we need to get it for her.

We cannot use the post office as they have asked for a "Biometric enrolement letter" before they can do anything..

Application For No Time Limit (NTL) And A Biometric Immigration Document By Someone Who Already Has Indefinite Leave To Enter Or Remain In The UK

Who told her ILR vignette was no longer sufficient and she now needed a BRP to prove her right to work in the UK?

See "A passport Vignette that permits employment or indicates that there are no work restrictions" starting on page 19 of An employer’s guide to acceptable right to work documents

Quote

Vignettes granting permission to come to or remain in the UK will still demonstrate a right to work while they remain valid.

Her ILR vignette is still valid, even if the passport it is stuck into has expired.

But, item 6 from list A on page 24 says

Quote

A current passport endorsed to show that the holder is exempt from immigration control, is allowed to stay indefinitely in the UK, has the right of abode in the UK, or has no time limit on their stay in the UK.

So she can only do this if the passport her ILR vignette is in is still valid and has not expired.

But you cannot transfer a visa or leave to remain vignette to a new passport in the UK anymore; you have to apply for a BRP instead! See rasg's link Transfer your visa to a new passport

Quote

You have permission to settle (‘indefinite leave to remain’)

You can transfer your visa to a BRP by applying for a ‘no time limit stamp’ (NTL).

Use the guidance and the NTL form to apply

N.B. The form linked to in the above quote is the one I linked to at the start of this post.
