Widows Pension

Featured Replies

I am nearing Old Age Pension age and am married to a younger (20 years) lady My question is that when I die would she be entitled to an Australian Widows Pension She does not meet Australian residency criteria I know my pension will be reduced due to her age etc but I am more interested in if she would be entitled to any support given I would be receiving the pension based on marriage

l would say don't bank on too much,  best place to ask this would be the Oz pension place.

My Thai wife was entitled to a number payments and a UK pension based on her age and my contributions some 10 years or so back but now gets nowt.

She would I think need to get Oz residency before being entitled  to anything, and even then it would most likely be Newstart which involves being prepared to take a job.but if you intend residing in Thailand then no pension available.before or after your demise.

Better to not tell them you are married and claim to higher rate single pension.

She has to be an Australian resident ie. a citizen or have a residence permit https://www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/services/centrelink/widow-allowance
