Hi there,

I would like to buy a SUV for me and my little family (2 kids and wife). Do you advice me to buy the Mazda CX-5 or the Honda CR-V ? Security, confort and fuel economy are important points.

Thanks :)

I recommend to make a test drive because there are quite different vehicles.

The strength of the Honda is comfort and practicality. The Mazda has better driving dynamics and is much more von to drive.

I also recommend to wait for the new models. Unfortunately the new CX-5 will not be available before end of this year.

We drive the 2nd CX-5 with the very powerful Diesel engine. We are 3 adults with 1 child (5 years old).

The CX-5 has the better safety package. The Diesel engine is also very fuel efficient. Our mean consumption is 7l/100 km (after more than 80,000 kilometres with both CX-5s. The fuel consumption on the highway is around 6l/100 km (at about 110 km/h). On smooth countryside ride I achieved values down to 4.5 l/100 km.

Comfort is fine. The new CX-5 will have some improvements and will be quieter inside.

Do you also checked the Nissan X-Trail? It has more space.

The Chevrolet Captiva is also a spacious vehicle but now quite old.

thanks juehoe for these informations, it will be difficult to wait until the end of this year for the new CX-5. I heard a new CR-V will arrive this year, do you when it will be available here ? I don'r really like the exterior design of the the Nissan X-Trail.

I had the current shape CRV for two years before replacing it with the Mazda.

Personally I would say the Mazda is superior in pretty much every way except rear cabin width. And only then because the Honda has a more box like rear.

Mazda drives better, more surefooted, more airbags, better steering, brakes and more fuel efficient. We had the 2.3 litre petrol Honda and the Mazda is a 2.5 litre petrol ( this has been discontinued and replaced by a 2 litre petrol and a 2.2 litre diesel )

The new CR-V should arrive earlier, but I don't have any information. You may ask your local Honda dealer.

The first batch of vehicles is often sold out very fast. So you should make a reservation. My Mazda dealer (on of the biggest in Thailand) gets a first batch of only about 5 vehicles.
