Accident Respected Labour Official Killed as Truck Crashes into Pickup at Police Checkpoint
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. Colleagues are mourning the loss of a senior government official after a lorry collided with his pickup truck near a police checkpoint in Kamphaeng Phet province. The fatal collision occurred at approximately 23.15 on 26 April on the southbound lanes of Phaholyothin Road, in front of a tyre shop in Salokbat subdistrict, Khanu Woralaksaburi district. Police and rescue teams quickly arrived at the scene. Authorities found a lorry transporting coal debris, registered in Prachuap Khiri Khan, had slammed into the back of a pickup truck registered in Nakhon Sawan. The collision claimed the life of Mr Somrat 58, a Senior Labour Academic with the Kamphaeng Phet Provincial Employment Office. Preliminary investigations revealed that Mr Somrat had been driving his private vehicle from Mueang Kamphaeng Phet district towards Nakhon Sawan. Traffic had slowed as vehicles queued to pass through a police checkpoint operated by Khanu Woralaksaburi Police Station. It is believed that the lorry, travelling behind Mr Somrat’s vehicle, failed to slow down in time and struck the rear of his pickup with considerable force, pushing it into another lorry ahead. Mr Somrat died at the scene. The lorry driver, Mr Tawee 58, was taken into custody for questioning. Alcohol tests carried out at the scene confirmed that he was not under the influence. Accident Two Workers Injured by Falling Crane Cage in Late-Night Incident in Bangkok
Pictured courtesy of Siam News Two workers have been seriously injured after falling with a crane cage while attempting to dismantle a roadside structure in Bangkok’s Huai Khwang district. At approximately 01.30 on 27 April, police from Huai Khwang station were alerted to the incident on Pracharat Bamphen Road, near Huai Khwang Junction. Officers, along with rescue teams from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation and emergency responders from Narenthorn (Rajavithi Hospital), were dispatched to the scene. On arrival, emergency crews found that one lane of traffic had been closed to allow construction work to take place. Two crane trucks were parked by the roadside, their booms raised. Nearby, two injured workers were discovered lying on the ground in visible pain, suffering from multiple injuries to their bodies and faces. First aid was administered at the scene before the men were rushed to hospital for further treatment. The injured were later identified as: • Mr Pongpetch 43, from Udon Thani province, who sustained injuries to his face and legs. He was transported to Ramathibodi Hospital by Poh Teck Tung Foundation paramedics. • Mr Thanaphon 30, from Ubon Ratchathani province, who suffered severe chest injuries consistent with being struck by a heavy object, along with other bodily wounds. He was taken to Rajavithi Hospital by Narenthorn paramedics. Preliminary investigations suggest that the two men had been working from the crane cage to secure ropes around a steel traffic sign frame, which was to be dismantled using gas cutting equipment. For reasons still under investigation, the cage detached from the crane arm, causing the men and cage to plummet approximately four to five metres onto the road surface. Witnesses at the scene said the workers had been hired to dismantle the traffic sign structure and were in the process of securing it when the incident occurred. Police have stated that they will summon the worksite supervisor for further questioning as part of efforts to determine the cause of the incident. Adapted by Asean Now from SiamNews 2025-04-28. -
