BANGKOK: -- The MEA, PEA and TOT embroiled in US cable firm’s admission it made illegal payments in Thailand and other countries.

A NEW corruption scandal has hit three more state enterprises days after the national carrier, Thai Airways (THAI), was rocked by allegations that it was paid US$38 million (Bt1.3 billion) in bribes by UK aircraft engine-maker Rolls-Royce.

In the latest disclosure from the US Justice Department, Thailand’s Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) and TOT Plc were named as agencies that received bribes from US-based General Cable for the sale of cables and wires to Thailand from 2002 to 2013.

In response to the disclosure, PEA governor Semsakool Klaikaew said yesterday the authority’s board had set up a committee to gather more details on the alleged bribery case.

Two in a week, in the international news no less. I wonder how efficiently they're going to be able to sweep these under the carpet? I'm kind of looking forward to this. Seeing how much mud sticks, and to whom. Should be a jolly good show if nothing else.  :clap2:

Do you think Thai electricity companies would needlessly buy cabling and give kickbacks?  I don't think so.

The cable supply contract is obviously sorted but I wonder if the sole supply contract for cable ties is still up for grabs?

I thought they were now calling the payments "Broker fees",sounds

better than bribes,    but still the same.

No mud will stick to anyone, and it will die a death and fade away, same as normal. No one is willing to investigate as they are all up to their necks in it.

This is just the way things work in Thailand. The cost of doing business and if you

take the high road and don't pay other companies will. No surprises here. :whistling:

Will die yet another slow death. This is just the tip of the iceberg concerning bribery. Its the new alternate truth in the business world. In the days and months to come more will come out and just overwhelm a system that does not know how to handle bribery charges on this level.

well it's nice that even a few of the billions of corruption cases in this place are getting into the news.  Does anyone know of anyone who is serving time for corruption other than for political reasons?
