PHUKET: A bus overturned on Phuket’s Kata hill this morning leaving all 16 Indian tourists on board with minor injuries.

Capt Somkiet Hwantae of the Chalong Police was informed of an accident on Kata hill at 7:50am today (Jan 26) where it was reported that a bus had crashed into a concrete barrier on a bend on Patak Rd (Kata hill).

Police arrived at the scene to find a Bangkok registered tour bus leaning on its side against a concrete road barrier.

Capt Somkiet said, “There were 16 Indian tourists on the bus and they had to be rescued by Phuket Ruamjai Kupai rescue workers.

They really should fix the road in that bend. Has been for more than 1/2 year now, and with any accident or even beak down all traffic in southern Phuket comes to a halt. Last week a lorry broke down just in that curve, resulting in traffic stand still on all access roads to Chalong circle.

The driver, named Jiroj Noochaikeaw, tested negative on the breathalyser. He told us that on their way downhill on a bend he attempted to change lanes to avoid a vehicle in front of the bus and lost control," Col Sakkarin told the Phuket Gazette.

Two different journals, two different policemen, same driver, two different stories!

I read the above as "driving too quickly on a dangerous, bendy, hilly piece of road, attempted to overtake a slower vehicle in front and crashed into the central barrier."

the bus around 20yo just like all tour buses around Phuket. Lucky the last year they make this concrete barrier if that no have he drive down from the hill like last year when 3 dies. The problem here about the conditions of the buses.
