The Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) has carried out a large-scale destruction of seized drugs, including 139 million methamphetamine pills, in a move underscoring the government’s commitment to combating the nation’s drug problem. The ceremony, the 10th of its kind this year, was held at Akkee Prakarn Public Company Limited, with Justice Ministry Deputy Minister Yusin Jintapakorn presiding. Also present were Pol Lt Gen Phanurat Lakboon, Secretary-General of the ONCB, and Deputy Secretary-General Apikit Chor Rojprasert, along with representatives from the Narcotics Suppression Bureau, Highway Police, the Forensic Science Office and public witnesses including prominent artists and social media influencers. The drugs destroyed were seized from 1,304 cases and weighed a total of over 20 tonnes, including: • Methamphetamine: 139 million pills (13,895 kg) • Crystal meth (ice): 6,076 kg • Ketamine: 1,440 kg • Heroin: 174 kg • Other controlled substances: over 20 kg Deputy Minister Yusin emphasised that the operation reflects the government’s strict anti-drug policy and ongoing determination to remove illegal substances from society. “This is the 10th destruction operation we have carried out, and combined with previous actions, more than 203 tonnes of illegal drugs have been permanently removed from circulation,” he said. The ONCB highlighted that the new Narcotics Act allows for faster and more transparent handling of seized drugs. The participation of celebrity witnesses, including actors Por Arnon Thongborisut, Art Ekkrath Takiennuch and Benz Jirayu Jantrawong, was intended to reinforce public confidence in the integrity of the process. Pol Lt Gen Phanurat added: “Every batch of drugs destroyed today represents the tireless and risky work of our officers on the front lines. Our mission is not complete until these substances are eliminated. We will continue to enforce the law strictly to protect society and safeguard the future of our children.” The ONCB has conducted ten major destruction operations covering 2,117 cases, removing over 203 tonnes of illegal drugs from circulation. This includes more than 1.354 billion methamphetamine pills and over 65 tonnes of crystal meth. The agency stressed that all seized drugs are disposed of permanently, preventing them from re-entering society. Adapted by Asean Now from Matichon 2025-08-23 -

Can a Bar Girl Ever Really Understand Kind Generosity?
Years spent in the nightlife definitely changes people. When every smile, every touch, and every late-night conversation is tied to money, it’s hard not to see the rest of the world through that lens. Men become walking wallets. Kindness gets taken fully for granted and becomes an expected obligation. Generosity starts to look less like caring and more like payment. So what happens when one of those women leaves the bar scene and settles down with a man who once sat on the other side of it with his wallet out? Does she ever learn to see his gestures as real acts of affection and caring, or is it always filtered through the old rules of the game? Some might believe the mindset never fades. Others assume people can reset, that love or stability changes the way you see things. The reality is, there’s no clear answer. Some people will argue it’s impossible to shake off years of conditioning, others might say people are capable of change if they want it badly enough. Perhaps it depends less on the past and more on what kind of future both people are trying to pursue. Or maybe it’s just one of those uncomfortable truths of the nightlife world, you can leave the bar, but the bar never fully leaves you. -
