Can someone confirm I'm OK on this tight exit?

Featured Replies

I am a US citizen currently in Thailand on a 30-day visa exemption.   Passport stamp says "...Admitted until  6 Feb 2017"

My exit flight out of BKK (to DAD) is at 1:50 AM on Feb 7th.   Assuming no delays, I should be checking-in around 10:30 PM.

I am assuming that this will not present an over-stay problem as long as I clear immigration before midnight.    Anyone think differently?

(Obviously, I'm exposed if there is a delay)

Thanks,
-Tom

You won't have a problem. I left a day late last month.

If delayed it will not be a problem. One day overstay, should they want to look upon it as such, is 'free of charge" when leaving through an airport, and may sometimes lead to an overstay stamp, which is of no consequence for future visits.

If the flight is delayed you will probably already have cleared immigration anyway and will be on the "airside" of the airport and no one will come and hassle you there about an overstay. No worries.

No, your assumption is correct. As long as you pass through passport control before midnight you have not overstayed.

Even if you exit after midnight they should not charge for the 1 day overstay. They might stamp the passport with the overstay, but it shouldn't have any consequence in the future.

International flights normally check in 3 hours early.

Once you are through exit  immigration you are checked out and in a waiting status.

Past the immigration check out as you head to he departure area you will find areas where you can sit and get coffee or even a drink if you want.

Since you have already gone through immigration and  are checked out by them you are already no longer in country for overstay.

However if you get drunk and get into a fight, Thai laws still apply to you.

But if you have a boarding card and behave yourself, no one will bother you.
