I saw a sign outside the Promenada, it had exactly the same signage as the "Tor Ror Or" where they check private cars and bikes, ตรอ, this place is near the Super Highway, it has exactly the same logo and signage but it has "ตรบ" .

Not been able to find anything on it, anyone know what it actually is? even Google doesn't show anything. My wife said it might be something to do with insurance?

Would it be a certification point for goods vehicles or buses?

Thanks.

Even though it is related to motoring/vehicle insurance:

moved to Thai language forum.

Thai script not wanted in other forums.

Do  I understand this correctly?

"ตรอ."

สถานตรวจสภาพรถที่ตรวจรถจักรยานยนต์เพียงอย่างเดียว

Automobile Inspection Station and Motorcycle-only Inspection Station

It could well be. If ตร. stands for ตรวจรถยนต์ we just need the บ. probably บรรทุก if you are correct. Is there no chance that บ.could be the private cars (ส่วน)บุคคล and อ could be องค์การ ?
I have heard of Promenada from the Visa forum so this could be a local abbreviation which is why I haven't been able to find it. Next time you are there poke around because you will probably find them written in full somewhere, maybe on instructions of steps to registering a vehicle.

This one is pretty much for cars and motorcycles, pretty much covers the black and green lettered plates. (I have never seen commercial vehicles or minibuses etc. use these places) They can issue with tax and insurance.

When you say that it has the same logo do you mean a yellow cog wheel with ตรอ in the center and the legend explaining what the initials stand for underneath สถานตรวสภาพรถเอกชน ? If so why not read the legend?

Yes, it is the same logo the yellow cog with the blue background and the Thai lettering in the middle. That was why it caught my eye. It must be pretty recent as I think the sign is outside "GARAGE No. 1" on your right as you leave Promenada. I looked on Google Earth today and the sign is not there, the pics on Earth were from 2016.

We have looked at a few search sites and cannot find anything. I will take a camera next time I am out that way. I think it must be some sort of test station for HGV or buses, but cannot find anything to back it up.

I put this question to a friend and he got it right away: ตำรวจบ้าน > เมีย !

Does not make sense...that is something like "House Police" nothing to do with the vehicle stuff. That is something like "Taam Ruat Baan" Cannot understand the Cog Wheel like the vehicle licensing section.....not saying you are wrong, but it was outside of a garage for vehicles if I recall.

A related abbreviation is "พ.ร.บ." (พระราชบัญญัติ or "royal decree"). In colloquial terms this refers to "การประกันภัยรถยนต์ภาคบังคับ" or "mandatory vehicle insurance".

Might this be the abbreviation your are seeing on the sign?

I didn't notice your post. Since it is similar to the ตรอ sign the full text will be written round the bottom half of the sign. Probably รถบรรทุก .
