can anyone tell me the procedure for getting a new supply

can the supply be installed during the new house build or do we have to wait until completed

its in a soi with existing houses so just need meter on a pole then overhead to property, but would like electric for building works

thanks

I believe its possible to get a temporary meter which costs more than a standard one. Once the house is registered and an official address obtained, then you get the proper meter.

I could be wrong though :)

You need to ask at your local PEA office

That is the normal procedure, run a cable from next door and buy them a bottle of whiskey :)

Good luck with the build

Running a supply from next door is a possibility, meters are readily available so you can record and pay for your actual usage.

BUT

Some building works are power-hungry (think two welders doing your roof trusses), you'll need to run a decent breaker (40A plus) and cable to your property, you won't be able to just plug into an outlet.

It's certainly an option to get you started, we did it whilst waiting for PEA to get their act together, but I wouldn't rely on it throughout a major build.

Construction power with your own meter costs about 8 Baht per unit, the meter will be replaced when you get your permanent supply.

You're going to have to pay for poles and cable at some point anyway.

And no possibility of burning down the neighbour's home.

EDIT A further advantage of getting a construction supply is that PEA will usually install the meter in the final location so you can complete everything including poles etc. and get the power on in the house before passing the inspection for a permanent supply. IIRC we were in nearly a month before PEA actually turned up to inspect.
