N30 Red Stamp

Does anybody know what N30 stamped in a passport means? Need one more 30 day extension at immigration but a friend got this at Pong Nam border and I don't know what it means.

It is Thai script not a N. It is smudged so it looks like a N.

It means he got visa exempt entry.

It can be red, blue or black it makes no difference it just depends upon which ink pad the officer used. Some write it in instead of doing a stamp.

I have a feeling that this particular immigration officer chose red ink for the expiration date of the permission to stay to make this date stand out, more easily to catch the traveller's attention.

 

The Thai letter in the field for visa class is พ and I have no idea for what Thai word or expression this is meant to be an abbreviation, but as Ubonjoe said immigration officers generally use it for visa-exempt entries. On one arrival stamp I have on file it has even been doubled to พพ

Red ink for the visa class "visa-exempt" was perhaps used to make this stamp easier to find for the immigration officer upon the traveller's next visa-exempt entry at a land border, given that such entries are currently limited to two per calendar year.

I agree. Given the new limit they've used a large red stamp to highlight the type of entry.

It's a ผ (p).

Not new and color varies as already described:

I tried to find out what the "P" could stand for with uncertain result.

I would like to echo the assertion that "ผ." of "ผ.30" stands for "ผ่อนผัน".

 

According to my memo from an excellent paper dictionary, the word "ผ่อนผัน" has three meanings:

- to accommodate, make an exception, stretch rule;
- to make an allowance, show mercy, be indulgent;
- to delay, extend a limit.

 

 

In this case, I understand that it is used to mean "making an exception" since it follows the spirits of Paragraph 1 of Article 12 of the Immigration Act, which stipulates that "..., excepting if a visa is not required for certain types of aliens in special instances."
