Travel Agency Recommdations

Featured Replies

We're looking/thinking about booking some travel - tours out of the country....Specifically Korea or Japan - but also open to destinations with snow available - if still even possible....

Online offers really don't offer too much information - or in some cases flights originating from Thailand....

Does anyone know of a good, honest Travel Agent that would have a decent amount of options, preferably cost effective also....

A few years ago there were some highly recommended ones but I've lost the information.....

Thanks in advance....

We always use Travex. They booked our trip to Korea two years ago, made recommendations, etc. But there are plenty of Korean travel agents around that could help. We arrived in Seoul on 18/02 and 95% of the snow had already melted.... Probably a little late this year....

A Thai friend just returned from the mountains in Japan. Still lots of snow as of 6-7 days ago.

I would not trust any travel agent in Thailand, heard too many horror stories, bookings not being registered with airlines being the main scams of these agents.

Best to play it safe and use a reputable online booking agent. Whichever destination you consider it is easy to go online and do your own research. Now with Google Streetview it is even possible to view the area and hotel location for a sneak preview.

For the past few years I've just booked online myself but I used to go to a place called Travel Shoppe on the outside of the moat just before reaching the Starbuck's at Thapae Gate. I quite liked the service from Pidet. I assume he is still there but I have not been in in 5 years probably. You might check it out.

For the most part that is true. But companies like Diethelm (in business since 1957) and Travex (since 1974) are very reputable and employ many, many people in offices throughout the Kingdom and in other countries as well. They also purchase large blocks of tickets and offer services, many for free, that you can not accomplish with on-line bookings. But I too, would never trust a small mom and pop shop.

Over 25+ years I have used P&P Travel, Travex and Sea Tours repeatedly in Cm and always had good service, no problems.  Some of us were buying tickets before the internet and remember how to do it.

As cyber farang says be careful of travel agents in cnx about 5/6 years ago there was a a big con perpetrated by agents in chaing mai just be careful.

You are right. But those shops were small shops (< than 5 employees) and they only accepted cash. I haven't paid for an airline ticket with anything other than American Express for over 30 years. Some of the companies listed above employ over 100 people and they all accept American Express. No worries whatsoever.
