National police chief Chakthip Chaijinda speaks to reporters on Jan.10 in Bangkok.

BANGKOK — Police on Friday filed a libel lawsuit against speakers of an academic forum for criticizing their performance.

The suit was filed at Lumpini Police Station, four days after national police chief Chakthip Chaijinda ordered the police’s legal affairs department to look into the Jan. 26 forum, which he deemed defamatory toward police nationwide, said Bangkok police chief Sanit Mahathavorn Tuesday.

one can never expect to be Promoted beyond their Level of Incompetence.

the overly promoted ones then bleat,

because they don't want their subordinates to learn,

(via the media)  how to better use the same methods their bosses used to get ahead of the bunch...

... and the circle goes 'round...

C'mon guys, nobody should critisise the RTP. Let's not forget, these are the guys who fearlessly, with no thought for their own safety, went in and cleared up that den of iniquity the shisha bar in Ladprao, in the process confiscating dozens of WMDs known as shisha pipes.

Now the good people of Bangkok need no longer live in fear of those degenerates who smoke shisha, and who probably go out after smoking and commit terrible crimes, like catching the bus home or hailing a taxi. I even heard that one of them was so depraved he was seen to take a piss in the park on the way home! The horror!

So when we think to critisise the Boys in Brown, we should remember their heroic efforts in Ladprao, and be thankful we have such brave men to protect us from those most villainous of criminals, the shisha smokers and their enablers, the shisha bars.

they are PUBLIC SERVANTS -  the sooner they realise that the better, actually now would be the perfect moment for the PM to tell them............................YOU SERVE THE PUBLIC - they have a right to criticise your performance and scrutinise absolutely everything you do  - it would also be a good time to create  a public body that does exactly that..............over to you Prayut Chan (O) Cha - how about it, lets form a totally independent (powerful) public body that oversees and the Police and scrutinises everything they do - you want reforms ? ...............this is reform number ONE and should be at the top of your reform agenda

Police serve the public and should be the most accountable and scrutinised public body in Thailand - that is how it is in every civilised country in the world

The single change that will transform much of what is wrong in this country - the police and accountability to the public

I wonder if we can do the same to the big man himself. Oh no, attitude adjustment is an even more effective weapon than a libel suit. But then again, the big man isn't serving the public of course.....

well you see - the big man as you are calling him is the only person with a hope in hell of actually making it happen, nobody else either a politician - political party or otherwise has any interest in the country, their only interest is enriching themselves, so yes - the big man is possibly the only answer and the person right now that can do it, will he ? well that still remains to be seen, maybe you have someone better in mind that you think can do the business - I certainly don't

Police chief orders defamation charges to be filed against Sangsit

BANGKOK: -- The national police chief Pol Gen Chakthip Chaichinda has ordered metropolitan police to file defamation charges against dean of the College of Social Innovations of Rangsit University Associate Professor Sangsit Piriyarangsan and the former deputy commander of Chainat provincial police.

In a letter of authorization, Pol Gen Chakthip instructed Pol Col Worawit Yanchinda, acting superintendent of the directorate of Metropolitan Police Bureau, to lodge a formal complaint with Pol Lt-Col Yuk Thongyu, deputy superintendent of investigation of the MPB, accusing Sangsit and Pol Col Virut Sirisawatdibut of defaming the police force in general in a way which may cause the public to hate the police and damage the image of the police.

The alleged defamation took place during a panel discussion, titled “What is the Use of the Police?”, on January 26.

There are scores of people that not only would do a better job, they would actually serve the people and are accountable to them. Here you advocate that the police should be accountable, yet the PM should not ? One would think that someone so high up the food chain should be accountable. Ask yourself this question if he really meant well for Thailand, why are attitude adjustments needed, why is criticism not allowed ?

The answer is, he does not serve the Thai people, he serves an entirely different group of people, and they don't mean well for Thailand at all.

Maybe one day you will wake up from your dream and stop ignoring the grim reality of Thailand. The big man is in it to enrich himself and the buddies he serves, people that know Thailand well, know exactly whom his buddies are...

I'd bet most of the citizens here hate the police.  The Thai police do a great job of damaging their image without any help from others.

"... A recent case in which massive fraud was suspected to have taken place during entrance examinations led the public to heavily question police integrity..."

Seems, this is the response to suggestions of police reform.

It is pertinent to point out that an antonym of "reform" is "corruption".

Not forgetting the dangerous raid on the pensioners bridge club.
