PHUKET: -- Phuket Governor Chockchai Dejamornthan has confirmed to The Phuket News that he has signed and sent to Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha and the Ministry of Interior a special request to extend time the trading hours for nightlife venues along Patong’s Bangla Rd to 4am.

The request was sent yesterday (Feb 15), Governor Chockchai said.

“I sent a formal request asking both the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Interior to consider changing the law to be more appropriate for businesses and entertainment venues on Bangla Rd,” Gov Chockchai said.

The move follows a crackdown earlier this month that saw scores of revellers in Phuket’s party town kicked out onto the tourist-flooded streets one night (see story here), and then bars and nightclubs deserted the next.

The raids enforced the current law that bars must close at midnight and nightclubs must close at 1am.

Hold on, high season nearly finished, its supposed to be a bumper year for tourists. What is the incentive of the Governor to lodge this one with Bangkok? Does anyone have any answers on this one? Could it be for m....?:whistling:

This will be interesting. No more envelopes needed to be allowed to stay open late. One way

to end corruption is to make it legal. I doubt it will happen but I think it does have merit.

While I prefer an early night I don't judge others who like to burn the candle late into the

night. Very limited tourist areas. Bangla Rd. in Patong, Walking Street and LK Metro area

in Pattaya, etc...etc....Stop the monthly envelopes I say.
