A normal single pole circuit breaker operates on over current so it only requires to measure current in the active conductor..Your RCBO operates on over current plus out of balance or leakage current so it checks the current active going out matches the current returning in the neutral. Nin is the fly lead which you connect to the neutral bar and the circuit you are protecting is connected to Lout and Nout

You should read Nin as "N in" (so the connection where the Neutral wire goes in).

I was thinking about the inbalance of current in the load/neutral and not 'N in'. deeerrr.
