Customs says it has solid evidence to prove Chinese buses

BANGKOK: -- The Customs Department says it has solid evidence to prove that all the Chinese buses supplied to Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) were not assembled in Malaysia to gain tax privileges under the Asean Economic Community (AEC) agreements.

Statement by the department again stalled the decision of the BMTA to either take deliver of all the buses it purchased, or scrap the purchase contract with the supplier Super Zara Co. Ltd.

Customs Department’s deputy director-general Chaiyut Kamkun said that they had concrete evidence indicating that Super Zara had imported completely built-up buses from China for the BMTA.

Under the original terms of the contract the buses were supposed to be assembled in Malaysia before being shipped to Thailand thus qualifying them for lower taxes under the AEC terms.

Super Zara has denied all allegations.

Meanwhile Mr Surachai Eam-Wachirasakun, the BMTA director stated that the deadline for final delivery of the NGV buses has already been exceeded by two months.

He said the BMTA board had decided to wait for further developments and official word from the Customs Department before deciding on its next move.

Look at those rubber tyres...I strongly believe they are made in Malaysia...

Actually the identification plate that say  "Made and built in the Peoples Republic of China" could have given the Thais a little clue as to their origin.

I miss the usual mantra: it was all just a big misunderstanding...

The wheels on the bus go round and round, oops not in this case.

Well if we have established this point lets move on then. These buses will die from rust before anything conclusive is established.

they had concrete evidence

So what is the evidence?

If it's so solid, publish it.

Or is this a game of chicken - who gets the money?

So what's it gonna be? Will the buses stay or not???

Getting tired of all those games..

It seems they're not happy with them, than send them back and order buses somewhere else leo leo.

i said it before  Why were they not built in thailand, maybe thats just common sense:smile:
