KORAT: -- A jealous policeman shot his teacher wife and her lover as they were enjoying a coffee at a PTT gas station yesterday evening.

The cop unloaded his 9mm gun into the two victims then reloaded and fired off another full clip.

Then he got back on his motorcycle and drove off home. He was arrested on the way saying he was going home to kill himself.

Nakorn Rachasima police and medics rushed to the scene of the shooting at the PTT gas station in Ban Don Kwang on Phetmatukhla Road just after 6pm, Thairath reported.

On the coffee shop terrace they found two victims and 14 spent cartridges from a 9mm gun. Forty five year old teacher Juthathip Buakhlai was still slumped in a chair. She was riddled with bullets in her head and body.

On the floor nearby on his side was the lifeless body of 59 year old Phongphat Chotichum a teacher and lawyer. He too had been shot in the head and body multiple times.

Outside was the male victim's Toyota Vigo truck with Bangkok license plates.

The shooter had arrived on a Honda MSX then fled in the direction of Korat town. Police radioed ahead and Ekkaphong Phromsuk, 48, was arrested on his motorbike behind a train station. A 9mm gun was taken into evidence.

Ekkaphong is a police sergeant of the Region 3 force.

He told investigators that he found out that a man was showing an interest in his wife. He had been trying to find out exactly what was going on for a long time.

Yesterday he discovered that they were meeting for a coffee at the gas station and in an angry rage he went there. When he arrived he drew his gun and went over to the couple.

He admitted that he emptied his gun into both his wife and her friend before reloading and continuing the rampage.

He said he then left and was intending to go back to his police flat where he was going to shoot himself. But he was stopped and arrested before he could get home.

CCTV evidence was clear and confirmed his story in every detail.

He was detained as investigations in the case continue.

He wasn't going to shoot himself, if he did, why go home and not on the

spot? you feel more comfy at home type of activity?

Rage of jealousy has no practicable bounds or measurers, it's up to the

slighted individual to act the way he sees fit....

Thats a very dangerous thing to do,messing about with

a policeman's wife, and not the first time this has happened.

I was going to say the same.  Messing around with another man's wife is never a good idea.  But when the guy is a cop?  Or any guy with a gun for that matter.  Better to find a Thai woman with a farang husband who's overseas most of the time (joking!).

Priority: Clean up Pattaya's reputation. Never mind police murdering people, never mind the rich doing whatever the <deleted> they like and getting away with it, never mind the gob-smacking corruption, never mind this country is not a democracy etc. etc.. Oh no. We cant change that. Lets increase "police rents" in Pattaya, hit everyone that doesn't cough up the extra, and say we're doing something significant.

Exactly. What was the thinking? Would have been much more "green" to kill self at station: only one mess to clean up rather than two.

There are many countries around the world - definitely some in Europe - where despite the seemingly premeditated nature of the murders he would be able to plead mitigating circumstances under crime of passion directives. In Thailand too. He may well serve only ten years or so.

Thailand is having a tough week.

Police shooting innocent folk, PM saying farangs are responsible for so much counterfeit goods, ladies arrested for feeding fish, untold pollution in the waters caused by rubbish in rivers, Pattaya top cop saying people only go there to look at nature.

And that only scratches the surface.

I wonder how this will impact the next TAT report on rising tourist numbers.

The only reason I can see for people still  wanting to visit, is to see with their own eyes, the amazing things they are hearing at home, as most probably can't believe it can possibly all be true.

Thailand should publish a book called "How to shoot yourself in the foot and make it sound like a success."

And these idiots are getting more 'advanced' weapons soon. Crickey...

They shouldn't have stopped him and should have left him to go back and carried out what he claimed he wanted to do. Well, the rest could've followed and helped send him on his merry way, if he's found to have 'second thoughts'.
