Asking for extension on overstayed visa

Featured Replies

Hey all,

I overstayed!  I thought I would get a longer visa on arrival like I did in the past, wasn't up-to-date on the rules and overstayed my visa about 8 days now.

The thing is I'm trying to apply for a tourist visa for China, which I plan to do tomorrow.  I also want to visit the Immigration Bureau to request the extension.  But there's the problem:

Will the extension, if granted, be 7 days from the day I apply, or 7 days from the expiration?  I guess it wouldn't make sense for me to pay the fee and then get an extension that's already paid for.

Also do you think the overstayed visa would lessen the chances of being granted an extension?  Is it really up to the kindness of the officer or is there a rule on that?

I appreciate the help.

Are you on a 15 day visa on arrival entry or a 30 day visa exempt entry?

If a visa on arrival the likely would not do the extension after paying the over stay fee since you would only get 7 days to leave the country.

If on a visa exempt entry you would get a 30 day extension so they would do the extension.

Well I arrived by plane into Chiang Mai and got 30 days, so I guess it's 30 day visa exempt entry.  Do you think the overstay would affect whether they grant the extension?

Thank you

They will do the 30 day extension after you pay the 500 baht a day overstay fine and the 1900 baht fee.
