Thai Police: How many more bad apples left to find?

BANGKOK: -- Thai Rath posed the question after one of the biggest police on police drug busts in Thai history: How many more are there?

 

The news media's comments followed the arrest of Phisanupong Ngamthura who was attached to the Udomsuk police station in eastern Bangkok reported Thairath.

 

He was arrested on floor 5B Building 3 at Lumpiniville in Sukhumvit Soi 77. He was making a delivery to a smaller dealer and had

methamphetamines with him.

 

At his room investigators found a large haul - a further 28 kilos of 'ice'. In total the bust netted drugs with a street value of 84 million baht.

 

Ice trades for about 3 million baht a kilo in Bangkok.

 

Thai Rath called Phisanupong a big dealer. He was getting his drugs from a northern supplier then hiding it in his room for delivery to smaller dealers on the streets of Bangkok.

 

The news media said that the force normally don't want to have anything to do with investigating their own.

 

But on this occasion they credited the drugs suppression chief Sommai Kongwisaisuk down through the team that followed Phisanupong and then eventually carried out the arrest.

 

This was a good example of the force clearing up one of their own.

 

But it begged the question:

 

How many more bad apples are there out there?

The more important question is what will they do after the arrest. Too many show piece arrests of the uniformed kind but little to show in terms of proper and appropriate punishment.

The whole problem with Thai reporting is that there is almost no follow up. (on all cases)

How many members of the BIB are there...because the number of bad ones is probably close to that one.

Have  we heard the promised reasoning (1 week) from the big policeman explaining why he is getting monthly payments from a beverage company?  I thought not

The old saying ''lead by example'' is good if the example is good. Many, if not most of the RTP do not seem to display that example as they go about their crooked ways.

Hard to count - many of them. Most of them put on a brown uniform and masquerade as brown clowns. And they're everywhere. When you least need them, that is. And it seems there is no way of eradicating them. Gosh, sounds like I'm describing cockroaches. Ok to be fair, I said 'most' of them. Some are good, they just have the bad luck of having to wear that uniform.

Which means if there is not enough control of public servants, things will go wrong, because they can go wrong.

The odd time I do see a BIB pressed pants and all what a poster boy for progress. Proves not all things in life are what they seems to be.

A serious meth lab can produce a hundred kgs per day. Twenty eight kgs of meth is not even a days production. How many meth labs are there?  Be serious in the search and find those meth labs - not small time drug runners.

That's right. The Thai Rath question becomes rhetorical when much of the RTP has a whiff of cider about it.

But there is no law in Thailand, only if you feed the fish some bread than you get a 100.000 baht fine or 2 years in prison.....only if you're a tourist though.
