webfact Posted March 5, 2017 Posted March 5, 2017 Despite dispute, 10 Mahakan houses face demolition By PRATCH RUJIVANAROM THE NATION BANGKOK: -- TEN MORE HOUSES in Mahakan Fort Community will be demolished today by Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), despite six of the homes still being under dispute. Two are regarded as valuable antique wooden houses, which many residents insist must remain in the community. Before the latest crucial stage in the relocation operation, community leader Tawatchai Woramahakhun said yesterday that the community could coexist with a planned public space and archaeological site, and urged authorities to change their thinking and find a better solution to the 25-year conflict. webfact Posted March 6, 2017 Author Posted March 6, 2017 BMA begins demolishing homes at Pom Mahakan BANGKOK: -- Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) began demolishing homes at Pom Mahakan community today with the use of over 100 city officials, police and soldiers keeping guard as workers started to demolish six homes. It was the third time that city officials began to demolish homes in this old fort community said to illegally occupied by over a hundred of residents for several decades. Today four homes were demolished without resistance from residents. Two were earlier demolished. However a dozen of residents watched as workers brought down their homes. The demolition was peaceful as it was the willingness of owners to have their homes demolished by officials.
