BMA opens one more lane on Thai-Belgian bridge for outbound traffic

BANGKOK: -- Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) officials this morning opened one traffic lane on the Thai-Belgian bridge to allow outbound traffic to flow smoothly.

The opening of one traffic lane on the bridge’s two-lane traffic was allowed after testing of the strength of the bridge’s outbound lanes from Yaek Silom intersection to Yaek Withayu intersection with 12-ton, 15-ton and 18-ton heavy trucks showed the bridge could still withstand the loads.

The test showed that the bridge structure did not suffer severe damage from the fire which happened at a huge pile of garbage bins stored beneath the bridge last Tuesday.

But trucks from six wheels up, including buses, are not allowed to use the bridge from both ends. They have to turn left on Yaek Withayu and made a U-turn on Wireless (Withayu) road and turn left to return to Rama 4 road.
