How much is my aircon going to cost me?

If he was seeing mountains for the month of February there likely was no need for much air-conditioner activity.  Cool weather would also reduce fan/fridge expense.  April will likely be a bit different.

Phuket, Kathu has small mountains too :)

Yes  surprising that you only used 123 units

with aircon every night set at 26-27 , fan, fridge, TV, monitor, coffee machine, microwave, water heater and induction cooker.

Bills for past year:

01/2559: 165 units, 621.55 baht

02/2559: 141 units, 523.73 baht

03/2559: 213 units, 835.93 baht

04/2559: 224 units, 885.05 baht

05/2559: 203 units, 729.39 baht

06/2559: 200 units, 716.91 baht

07/2559: 203 units, 729.39 baht

08/2559: 181 units, 637.85 baht

09/2559: 161 units, 554.61 baht

10/2559: 149 units, 505.71 baht

11/2559: 146 units, 496.36 baht (away for 10 days)

12/2559: 146 units, 496.36 baht (strange, that it's the same consumption as Nov, because we were at home)

01/2560: 69 units, 253.19 baht (away for some 3 weeks)

02/2560: 123 units, 419.33 baht

In rainy weather, I use the  dehumidifier function on the air con.

Guess will be back to 700-800s in the coming months. If it's really hot, I run a/c at 28 with fan during the day (outside temperature -5 for ok comfort) and at 27 at night. This month cleaning is overdue so nighttime I set it to 26 or 25, but found that a bit cold. I am not overweight so I guess that helps too :)

Also have a 24/7 dry cabinet, but that is only rated at 5w :) Have changed all lights to energy saving bulbs and all household appliances have the highest efficiency rating (except for power hogs like espresso machine). TV usually runs at min or medium saving - found the normal one too bright

Your question can't be answered, factors include all of the ones Crossey mentioned plus how old is the aircon, serviced, how air tight is the room, does it get direct sun for how long on how many walls, black out curtains or not?
Really your question has so many variables as to be pointless.

You should have rented a condo with government electricity, probably cost you the same with that elevated electricity and you could have got a pool and a modern room.

Penny wise and pound foolish.

See attached, was surprised, too. Normally 5-600 and if some daytime aircon too, then 800 or slightly over. Luckily we are not getting too much sun due to building arrangement, and have nice mountain view too.

That's interesting, your unit rate is less than mine, I thought they were all the same. For the same period my consumption was 275 units which came to 1015 baht and total payable at 1017.22 baht. I had the same figure of 38.22 applied.

In December without any aircon consumption was 233 units and last year the highest was August at 444 units.

I found that once settled down for the night it is comfortable enough, once the room is cooled down. To just have the fan going with the compressor off.

If you have to have the fan at the right angle i.e. blowing across the bed, and you still get a bit warm, pull down the bed-clothes a bit and if you are still perspiring  you will keep cool all night. In a natural way.

This means that by not using the compressor, it will save plenty of electricity and still keep you cool.  A lot less noise too.

Might not work if you are on the top floor of a flat roofed condo though!

Also probably not so good if you have dry skin or eyes.  I can not have fan blowing on me but if you are not cooling much below outside temp the compressor will not be operating all than much - as for noise should be about the same just using fan as compressor is outside and should not be heard that much - and a little noise is good for sleeping.

you save even more electricty without aircon fan on thinking of wandering nekkid during an icecold winter night north of the polar circle. :saai:

we had a near identical home in Central Florida and our consumption during the hot months was only ~20% lower because of efficient three-zone central airconditioning.

no plants in our house!

Live in a house instead of a condo/apartment. I have a 12,000, 18,000 and 32,000 BTU along with a big fridge, TV, 24 hour pumps, 24 hour lighting etc, and the electricity bill ranges from 900 - 1400 baht. However, When i used to live in an apartment, just a 12,000 air con without any other appliances was 1,500 baht.

Best approach run the aircon and check the meter readings daily. You then know precisely the cost for your situation.

Not necessarily....

I went through a period when my elec bills (rented house) doubled - and as I was short of money at the time, started taking morning and evening readings in an attempt to work out why this was happening.

Long story short, the readings fluctuated a lot so I presented the readings to the landlord.  The meter was changed, but the 'readings' continued to fluctuate for no discernible reason and eventually I gave up as there was no point and I didn't want to leave my rented house.

Around a year later, the elec bills went down (and have stayed down) - again for no discernible reason :passifier:.  Fingers crossed/touch wood that I'm not tempting 'fate' here!

We too live in a house, only run one 12,000 BTU aircon at night set to 28-30C, low energy lighting, fridge, freezer, telly.

Our bill is 4,500 - 5,000 per month, government rates :(

EDIT

Did I forget to mention the 5HP of irrigation pumps and 1HP pool pump? Oh and the 3 PCs?

The problem is that there are so many variables and so many lifestyles it's almost impossible to compare two usage patterns :(

If I can be granted permission to go off at a tangent, I am having a 36 sqm guesthouse built. Open plan bedroom, lounge and small kitchen, enclosed shower, toilet and washbasin. Concrete walls, pitched roof will have 6" insulation. What BTU aircon should I be buying? Favoured brands, conventional vs inverter?

switch your aircons to cooling mode and then tell us about your electricity bill :coffee1:

The conventional Thai guesstimate would put that at 21,600 BTU.

Since it's a multi-use area you should consider an inverter unit as less cooling will be needed at night when it's a bedroom.

That seems a ridiculous amount...I don't see the point of having an air con if you're setting it to 28-30 so I set it to 25. Although i put it on a 3 hour timer with the fan running also just to get me to sleep. Day time is another matter obviously. I was under the impression between 24-26 degrees saves you in terms of the electricity bill anyway. Fairly sure that is what the government recommend in terms of savings. Ours is a new house so lighting is all LED. Other than outside which are flood lights. Fridge, washing machine, two TVs one pretty good rating, the other not. Pumps, well I only turn on the dam pump to water the garden and the house pump is automatic obviously. The supply water pump ill turn on once every 3-4 months if the water stops coming for whatever reason. Run 2 computers and a 8 camera CCTV system. And an industrial fan (with ice) outside for the dog lol.

If you say so Willie.

But you know nothing about our home, our lifestyle or anything else.

Our standing load 24/7/365 is about 800W which equates to about 2,300 Baht per month before we fire up the A/C or irrigation pumps.

The biggest saving you can make with an aircon, is to turn it off. So our consumption (for the aircon only) is less at 28-30 where we are comfortable, than it would be at 24-26 where we would be cold.

EDIT Before anyone asks, yes I'm a farang (a Brit) but I've lived in the tropics for more years than I care to remember, I would die of exposure on a UK summer's day :(

OK, "almost nothing" :)

Actually, if you search Thaivisa you'll find quite a lot about me, my wife and our home (and pets), you could probably work out where we live and find my Facebore page too.

I have made concious efforts to reduce the base load, but something always complains (or floats to the top of the koi pond).

to match some of the f@cktual comments presented by resident lurned eggsburts here's mine:

installed in our home are

1 unit..... 48,000 btu/h

1 unit..... 24,000 btu/h

1 unit..... 18,000 btu/h

14 units. 13,000 btu/h

2 units..... 9,000 btu/h

their thermostat settings are at 26 and 27ºC.

their energy consumption per month is extremely low... when not switched on.
