Interesting update. Agents catering to the newly arriving Chinese community are advertising rental properties with pre approval from landlords to advertise the properties as homestay!

Potential for both landlords and tenants to find themselves in trouble with the revenue and immigration etc as the operations are illegal unless properly licensed and highly unlikely the Chinese/ or other lesees would meet the criteria as most are here on education or  parent of child visas etc, most definitely not "work visas".

This is a good thread OP and a real problem if not dealt with.  I would hate to be living next door to someone who's renting out their house like a hotel room and having to deal with tourist-like behavior in a quiet suburban neighborhood.  That's why I'm living out in the suburbs, to avoid that stuff.

Whether the Foreign Affairs Dept of the China govt or personal chinese interactions with folks unknown, the basic chinese life policy is simply 'lie and deny, lie and deny, lie and deny'.

That's an unfair slur on the Chinese. You could say it is a major part of most non-Northern European based cultures.

I have heard that the wealthier Chinese are very concerned about pollution at home and a lot are renting or buying and sending their kids to school here, the wife staying with the husband visiting.

I've heard that a hotshot sales team sold a whole CM condo building (50%?) in China.

It makes sense, CM's cheap, and we're a short ride from China.

Can anyone confirm, deny, or give examples of this phenomenon?
