Charter clause on public hearings no hurdle to organic laws: CDC

By The Nation

Article 77 of the new charter, which requires concerned authorities proposing new laws to listen to the people first, will not be an obstacle to the drafting of organic laws, Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) spokesperson Udom Ratamarit said.

Udom said the CDC has actually held some public hearings on the 10 organic laws it was working on, and would produce related documents to accompany its draft bills when submitting them to the National Legislative Assembly.

The CDC has finished laying out all the principles of the laws and would continue fleshing out their details.

This, he said, would meet the deadline, which is 240 days after the charter promulgation.

The charter is now pending royal endorsement.

Agree, CDC listening in itself is not an issue. It's ignoring what's being said that's the issue. The military-appointed government is not answerable to the Thai polity nor can it be criticized. The good of the nation supersedes the needs of the citizenship.
