Gee, I've noticed a lot of fat Eurps in Pattaya, but not all of them are Russian. Besides most Russians don't like them when they've reached 23

All blather all talk Pattaya is probably the largest brothel in the world, of course this is only my opinion, having been totally around the world a couple of times I do feel qualified to have my opinion, and also after living here for eight years and spending several years winter months in the west living here.

of course I would never question governments statements that people visit Pattaya for the scenery and cultural aspects or question the propaganda TAT put out.

but then again they do confuse me, I wonder why so many girls want to have sex with me every time I visit Pattaya maybe because I am handsome man at seventy four years old (but hell I am also a realist, and do suspect at times they are telling a porker ) life goes on the police have a very rewarding remuneration system so it would seem ,but hey I'm just a dumb farang.

Yes it is . Russian tourists with their Russian wives and kids would not come in millions if it was only a sex city.

Most of you are seemingly blind to the fact that beach destinations are generally cash cows or buffalos.

Sex or no sex, Pattaya will bring in tourist dollars especially if they shift the draw from mostly sex to a more mainstream vibe with beachside shopping complexes, tropical style resorts, and maybe even a casino. The sex will remain but it will be more discreet. Think of it as a slightly more vibrant Hua Hin.

Except the beach in Pattaya is awful, if you were going for a beach holiday in Thailand....you would be an idiot to go to Pattaya.

They don't know better, once they do...they won't come.

No one would come to Pattaya for the beach if they had already experienced a beach without lumps in the water

The authorities will never win.

A year or 2 ago in Sri Lanka the big hotels were notorious for supplying prostitutes to guests, either in the guise as spas, hanging about in the lobbies or in their casinos. The SL government placed an order to shut down all the 5 star hotel spas. But the hotels are owned by high ranking police officials and government ministers. They protested claiming it would ruin tourism and won the day. The Sri Lankan government gave in and allowed the spas to be reopen again. Instead as a public relations exercise and so as not to those face, the police raided and shut down all the back street  low class brothels just so it appeared the government was seen to be doing something.

The same will happen in Pattaya. Whereas the bars and massage parlours that are owned by those with connections in the right places will not allow their businesses to be shut down or moved somewhere else. Watch this space to see if I am going to be right.

Still they come back year after year . It's their cheapest holiday destination from Eastern Russia . And you can find cleaner beaches up in Na Jomtien and the naval beach . It's filled with them .  Pattaya is only a part of the whole package.

Yeah got that wrong. Memory fade. I've been here a while. Know what goes on. 500 for thai, 1500 for falang. Just cant get away from double/triple pricing.

Is that called pricing by size i.e. 3 times bigger for falang d**g?? Rather clueless when it comes to rates for sexual favors.

Good post.  You only need to drive by the truly massive Terminal 21 complex rapidly going up to see that what Thaidream says is true.  No way you sustain that with just sex tourists.   I would only add that maybe more of the change is being driven by private industry rather than the government.  New family-friendly tourist sites like Cartoon Network Water Park were in the planning stages some years ago.  What we have now are young families everywhere.  Yes, families!  20something female tourists--both Asian and white.  Yes, female tourists in Pattaya traveling on their own!  Young Chinese and other Asians coming in small groups by themselves--not in budget tour groups. Young couples obviously on honeymoon. Lots of Bangkok weekenders.  Lots of retirees, including couples and even older, single women, living regular lives who like the beach vibe, the good hospitals, good restaurants/shopping, and Pattaya's proximity to Bangkok and a major airport.  Despite what some have posted, Pattaya is, indeed, a beach resort--just look at the throngs of people on the Pattaya Beach promenade; all the people actually sitting on, yes, the beach on a nice day; all the people filling Central Festival, Central Marina, Royal Garden, etc.   All the people filling all the new hotels and condos that have opened.  Maybe a sad fact for Thai Visa posters but the sum total of the posters here who think Pattaya is just for sex and has nothing else to offer likely wouldn't fill a floor of one of those new hotels.

WOW Sounds like a regular Disney World. Change is in the air I guess. Pollution?? Heavens no why would all these nice people come to only sniff the air.

20something female tourists despise Pattaya..Young farang women

loose their womanly powers in Pattaya..Most cannot be dragged here..

Pattaya for a honeymoon?..LOL..Yes young newly married couples will have treasured memories of walking down Soi 6 together..Or maybe a romantic ping-pong show...You have seriously got to be out of your mind...

Mia Nois and giks are paid but instead of renting daily it's more of a leasehold arrangement.  And before you quip, it's much different than a marriage.

The local scene is also being affected. Thai establishments are being raided as well.

The idea is to get rid of eyesores and any potentially negative establishment/practice that could make into the global media. I don't know if you've noticed but the online presence of p4p is growing rapidly mostly because the authorities see it as an end game solution to this entire problem.

My point is that raids, whether on farang gogo bars or local establishments, are nothing new. Sure, aspects if how commercial sex is sold are changing, but the doom and gloom (or delight) about the current government's plans are misplaced.

6 years ago when I arrived in Pattaya I would agree with you.  Not any more. Don't know where you live in Pattaya but I am on Pattaya 2nd Road near Hard Rock Hotel and I am seeing all the groups that I mentioned.  They're at the hotels and condos, they're walking on the street (one of the reasons I am always mentioning the bad sidewalks on 2nd Road), they're in the restaurants, they're on the beach, they're at the pool,  they're in the malls.  I think too many TV posters think Pattaya is just Walking Street and Soi 6.  Do a little observation in other areas and you'll see what I am talking about.

I spent 2 days in Pattaya last week, before flying to Singapore for 5 days, then back to Pattaya for 2 days, before flying back to Issan. The comparison is so huge, the cleanliness of Singapore, sidewalks you can walk on, joined up thinking, every building gives access to the next building, clear signage, no wires, no steel poles sticking out at Farang height. The smell and look of Pattaya is just disgusting. I told my wife that was my last trip there. The only area improved since my first visit in 1997 is the sidewalk on Beach Road, which has improved substantially, however there are still areas of complete darkness, replete with prostitutes, while policemen remove hawkers from the beach. Although I have to give them some credit for actually doing something. Yesterday morning,0430 hours, we passed bars serving alcohol, and prostitutes aplenty, so much for a crackdown.

Aaah, Singapore with the nickname Fine City.

S$50- for not flushing the toilet.

Fines for this or that or caning.

Lovely city for a holiday.

The only time I saw a policeman in Singapore was in Little India, there was a very heavy presence, some police were armed, although we observed no trouble.

Beside the sex industry: what has Pattaya to offer?????

Sure maybe chinese tour groups are just rushing along walking street....not even have a beer there. And this street is famouse around the world.

On the other hand sure you can enjoy dirty beaches, dirty and contaminated ocean water.....

but the hell only even chinese come for that or russians who have not a big alternative!

We are not allowing prostitution in these entertainment places," ................ told reporters on the infamous Walking Street in Pattaya, southeast of Bangkok.

Less than 10 metres (yards) away, women accosted foreign men to offer sex for 2,000 baht ($60). Others lined up with numbers so customers could take their pick. Masseuses in miniskirts offered "happy ending" massages whose euphemistic title has nothing to do with the Happy Zone of the authorities.

In my "considerable" experience of W S, that is complete BS. I don't even remember happy ending massage places on W S, and women don't "accost" farangs. They wait for the farangs to "accost" them first.

As for the "numbers", has that author never been inside a gogo? They have been using numbers for as long as I can remember.

Re the "we don't allow", at least that is true. The sex takes place elsewhere.

This is just another BS pretend journalist wanting a freebie trip to Thailand. seen it all a dozen times before over the years.

LOL. Singapore became so sterile that not enough people were visiting, so they had to relax the rules and far as I can gather, it has a well developed sex industry now.

Brothels were legal there back in the 70s, though kept out of sight, but only for the desperate. Bugis Street was the place to go for a night's entertainment.

Mainly for the condo and the location.  My partner and I live here year-round and we started in Pratamnak, then moved to Jomtien.  We liked both areas but found ourselves going to Pattaya sometimes 3 times a week so we ended up moving here. We like being a short walk to Central Festival to the south, a short walk to Central Marina to the north. Banks, barbers, movies, hospital, markets, lots of restaurants and shops all close by.  Terminal 21 on the horizon. We are probably in Home Pro or Index once a week and they are nearby.  Some fairly upscale hotels and condos in the area so an interesting mix of tourists and residents.  But, we are the restless types so we could end up back in Jomtien or maybe give Naklua a try.

Yes, the key word is "in". Paying for sex is not allowed in such establishments, hence the barfine system. The girls are (strangely) required to wear numbers by law. Street soliciting is illegal.
