April 9, 20178 yr Driver under meth influence crashes bus into truck By The Nation A bus, driven by a man under the influence of meth-amphetamine, rear-ended a truck in Angthong province on Sunday morning, injuring about 10 Myanmar passengers. Pol Lieutenant Chatchai Chaiya said the victims had sustained slight injuries and had already received first aid. “The bus driver claimed he fell asleep behind the wheel. But after being grilled, he confessed to taking one meth-amphetamine tablet before hitting the road,” Chatchai said. The accident took place on the Asian Highway, while the bus carrying 50 Myanmar passengers was on its way to Tak province where the passengers planned to celebrate the Songkran Festival. “Our bus swerved right and left before crashing into a truck,” one of the bus passengers said. April 9, 20178 yr No-one here cares about the public.....especially the public transport people....backward, drug taking drivers....passengers have to risk their life using this transport system!
April 9, 20178 yr ........ and how many more on drugs are out there? It takes half a brain to make a drug test mandatory for all taxi/coach drivers no exceptions made. We, the customers, are sick and tired of having to keep up with these lunatic junkies. We simply can not tolerate this any longer. The Big Bosses have yet to set a zero tolerance policy for taxi/coach drivers driving under the influence. They have yet to greatly increase the number of random breath tests in the streets including motorcycle taxi. They have yet to set high penalties for violators. <deleted>?

No drug tests because bus drivers have no money. Plenty drug tests on night clubs because can get big extortion from a busted tourist
April 9, 20178 yr Never ceases to amaze me how many locals when picked up by the cops immediately spill their guts on their crimes. They just seem unable to keep their mouth shut. Having said that, I hope the cops have actually arrested him and he gets charged with driving under the influence, as well as possession, which should see him safely off the roads for 2-3 years.

April 9, 20178 yr Straight to jail 5 years minimum. no if or buts. Get the big sticks out for passenger service vehicle offenders.

Far more Thais are drug tested than Farang. IN amata Nakhon the cops set up road side drug testing everyday. I (farang) am waved through everytime. They really don't care about us. Most of the drug testing in Pattaya also targets the Thai pubs and Thai customers. The road side piss tests only seem to target males, which is a bit unfair. You sound paranoid.

The guts spilling is due to the fact they get large (up to 50%) discounts on sentencing if they instantly confess and point the finger further down the chain.

April 9, 20178 yr Another example of what happens on the ground being totally opposite to what the many persecuted farangs on tvf would have you believeSo true...Sent from my iPad using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app
April 9, 20178 yr If the PM really wants to improve road safety there are a number of things they can do about buses and vans. Certainly drug testing should be foremost, as well as a licensing system that test s hard and you permanently lose that license for a drug or dangerous driving conviction. Also GPS, speed limiters, and proper independent inspections.

April 10, 20178 yr ...whatever happened to 'screening'....??? ...and gotta be quite convinced that the drivers that 'make a run for it' would have been in similar condition.... ...a paltry fine...or 1 month suspension...if that...??? ...reminds me of the article on the convicted taxi driver rapist...etc...that 'can't wait to get back to his job'.... ...what do you call that type of mentality....'normal'....???
April 10, 20178 yr Why are these bastards not tested just before they begin their shifts...? Mandatory urine tests, right before they get on the bus, under supervision...!
April 10, 20178 yr Frankly - I thought half the drivers in thailand were under the influence of Meth and the rate seems much higher for taxi drivers (if driving habits are any indication of hyped up meth addiction)!
