Songkhla border ready for spike in visitors

SONGKHLA: -- Thousands of foreigners lined up on Wednesday at Songkhla's Sadao border checkpoint on Wednesday to pass through to Hat Yai to join Songkran Festival.

 

Immigration lanes for outbound travellers at Songkhla’s Sadao border checkpoint were temporarily re-designated for inbound traffic on Wednesday to accommodate a sharp rise in the number of Malaysians and Singaporeans arriving. 

 

At least 15,000 people were expected to pass through the checkpoint ahead of the popular Hat Yai Midnight Songkran festivities taking place Wednesday night and the following day. 

 

Officials have also prepared to recalibrate computers and temporarily make all lanes inbound in the event that the influx of travellers was even greater.

Hat Yai was busy yesterday, and the traffic was chaotic, with the central blocks closed off for erecting the stage and organizing the party area, that plus all the Malaysian coaches trying to drop people off.

 

I'll be stay well clear of the madness zone until early next week.

Wow!,  sounds like a lot of people who do not live in Thailand, like to come and join in on the

Songkran festival activities.  Good for them, hope they all have lots of fun, and spend lots

of money in Thailand as well.
