Key Yala suspect wanted for 2014 bombing arrested

PATTANI: -- Narathiwat native Panya Pi, a suspect in a Yala bombing attack and several other violent incidents in the region since 2007, has been arrested

The Internal Security Operations Command’s 4th Region Front Command announced the capture of the 33yearold after Yala Court in May 2014 issued an arrest warrant for him. The command’s deputy spokesman Colonel Yutthanam Phetchmoung told a press conference yesterday that Panya was arrested at a grocery shop in Tambon Khao Toom of Pattani province’s Yarang district on Monday.

Yutthanam credited the arrest of the suspect to the collection of forensic evidence, checking of CCTV footage and intelligence gathering by relevant agencies, as well as the cooperation of local residents.

He said investigators would look into Panya’s connection with other incidents.
