shop to install car dash cam in Pattaya?

i would prefer to purchase the system direct from the shop and get it installed there as well - hoping to get less trouble in the case of failure or any issues regarding warranty

HONDA CRV

Cheaper imported dashcams up to around 3000 baht will come with at most a 6-month warranty, nayeb 1-year if you are lucky.

Installers may offer 30-days on their installation.

The higher-end, more expensive imported ones like BlackVue will have a much more generous warranty but what use if you have to send it overseas for any warranty claim evaluation?

Dual lens and GPS for speed logging indicates the need for something similar to the Transcend DrivePro 520. However, I reckon having the second lens only looking inside the car is a waste of time. I have the second camera stuck on the back window.

I have had a total of three, less-than-2000 baht dashcams over a period of about 6 years. They last for about 2 years and most likely will be obsolete by the time you need/want to replace it. The first had no GPS and still works after the Nokia battery got real fat in the sun, the second was an updated version of the first with GPS, eventually fell foul to heat-related issues. Both are obsolete now. The third/current one cost about 1800 baht, twin lens, no GPS and unlike the first couple, has a metal body so we hope that means a bit more heat resistance. So far, so good.

The CR-V is an easy dashcam installation. Mrs NL had one. You can install it yourself 'over the dash' so it's in use straight away and then hide the wires yourself on a long, dry, Buddhist Lent weekend (for example).

Boy Sound and Air. There's your answer.

The OP didn't find exactly what he wanted there so we are doing some product selection so that hopefully he will buy something online and take it to Boy Air or any of the others already pointed out and get 'er done.

as mentioned above - they don't have the dash cam I am looking for front/rear including GPS (showing speed driven)

Easiest to buy online.

I bought mine from Ebay about 3 months ago.

I'm not so sure.

For my vehicle they removed the fascia panel and soldered in a power lead so that I would not lose the use of the fascia cigar lighter. Also makes it much neater than having wires and a big USB adaptor sticking out all over the place. I thought it was well worth the 300B I paid.

Yes but they didn't remove the whole dashboard. It can be a challenge since most plastic composite dashboards are all snap-fit, no screw and one does need some plastic tools to spring some apart. However, if one knows how to hold and use a screwdriver, one does generally have the savvy to hide wires. Even roof panels and A-pillar covers are flexible enough for wires to be tucked away. I agree that power connections may be a bit more challenging for those that can't tell an AA battery from a AAA battery. However, one may be surprised by what a installation-specific search on YouTube will bring up these days. I ended up installing a separate (12V to 5V @ 5A) power converter to hang extra toys from. Much neater.

The option of having one of those cigarette lighter 'Christmas Tree' abominations has to be avoided. Good deal for 300 baht too!

Good find! But I would hate to spend the guts of 400 bucks and never have a contestable speeding ticket or speed-related accident though.

Never had a speed ticket or a prang with any of the <2000 baht, non-GPS ones either.

I purchased for the blame game when the police and other party claim Iam at fault in an accident.

Good luck using a dash cam to contest a speeding ticket.

Exactly. GPS is (mostly) superfluous in dash cam. Primary function is settling exactly who did what in the event of a prang.

There's no pulling the wool over your eyes is there !!

Would love to hear the argument for getting off a speeding ticket though.

Judge; Police claim your speed was 120 in a 100 zone.

Claimant; Your Honour, according to the footage  from my china made dash cam I was only doing 116 in that 100 zone.

Judge; Fine upheld and here pay the court costs for wasting everyone's time.

Bwahahahahaha !!

Hey Tonto, I never suggested that GPS will help to contest speeding tickets, I merely restated one of the OP's stated needs for GPS.

thanks - i only need GPS in the dash cam to prove the speed driven either against police speed check points or accident claims - I do have separate GPS e.g. for maps......

When i first got my dash cam i went through a GREEN light in Udon Thani.
I was stoped by a Muppet in Brown who said i went through a RED light
.
I went to the pay desk at the side of the road.
Showed him that the light was green.
He said it was still 400B
If i wanted to go to court
It would cost me 4000B.
No contest.
Paid up

What about getting the car dealership that services your vehicle to install a GPS that you bought yourself? Would they be willing to do it, or do you think they'd ask an arm and a leg? I use the Ford dealer across Sukhumvit from Makro. Has anybody had them do this sort of installation,  and if so how much did it cost?

I know the Mitsu dealership won't install aftermarket equipment, can't speak for others.

Ford have their own line of accessories that includes a dash cam. They would install that with a warranty.

They don't have any GPS listed under accessories but Garmin and TomTom devices are pretty user friendly for installation unless you want to hide the power wires. In that instance, the shop on Sukhumvit that kittenkong recommended earlier and only charged 300 baht will probably do.

Don't know which shop but I would go with the old fashioned & reliable GoPro. I'd get 4 of them. One at the front, one at the back and one on both sides of the car. GoPros are well known as being No.1 in capturing video on the go. Eg. for lots of action sports and rally driving, etc. use them. I'm not sure but I think GoPro is wireless so no need to mess about with wires.

And you would change batteries every 2 hours?

Brilliant idea.....

Hard wire for power and a GoPro smart remote to turn them on and off.

One bad review?

Looked on some others sites and they seem OK but a bit overpriced when it comes to the basic camera specs. Not sure if the extra dosh for their self-proclaimed 'social car camera' spiel is worth it.

Thanks for the info. Any idea of the cost, including the camera they are selling? I've got a dash cam I was given in the UK as a present but it's very fiddly to use (microscopic buttons and my sausage-like fingers don't help!) so I've never bothered installing it. If the price is reasonable I might be willing to buy a new one here.

The 300B place was Rocket Sound in Bangkok.

Full disclosure: my son-in-law does this business. He says he can install 2 cameras with GPS for 4500 baht including installation. He can come and install at your house.  He sells and installs cameras, GPS, fuel tank monitoring systems and software to commercial trucking firms. I've been telling him he can sell to private individuals as well, but he doesn't know how to get into that niche. He has installed on all our vehicles and they work fine.

I'm no expert on these and don't make any claims as such, if interested you can send me a PM if interested and I can give you his name and contact details.

My dashcam (from Amazon UK) was sitting on my coffee table for 11 months before I got it installed.

Installation is sticking it to your windshield and plugging it in.
