True or AIS broadband in Pattaya ?

I am on the move and unfortunately my trusted ISP from 3BB is not available so I have been told my only options are TOT, AIS or TRUE.  TOT is out of the question so I will end up with AIS or True.  I do not need any fancy package and lots of TV channels. Only a reliable internet line.

I know that AIS is a new player in town and True has been available for many years.  I think AIS could be the best option since it's new but if True has a good reputation in Pattaya (Naklua area) that means something .

TOT gets a lot of flak here but the fiber's been great for me, no complaints. AIS, new kid on the block, has been getting good reviews but may be too scarce to get many bad reviews yet. TRUE seems to be a love or hate it proposition. There's a new TRUE shop right in back of CentralFestival, BTW.

Seems much depends on exactly where you are--you might check around w/ your future neighbors and building management if there is any. In absence of feedback I think I'd give AIS a chance.

Well that was easy , I went to Central to the AIS shop. After waiting in the queue for some time I was expecting the worst, deposit and contracts to sign. But everything went smoothly. Just handed over my ID, and that was it. No deposit to pay, monthly bills will be sent to my address. And I received a text message that a technician will install the line in a few days. So far so good.

True is my ISP. I had some issues over Songkran with my service and their lack of response. Very polite and helpful on the phone but lied to about a tech coming to resolve my problems. Perhaps the holiday period was a reason, but I was left with a bad taste.

I believe overall quality really depends on where you are located.

Same used to happen to me w/ 3BB. In fairness the techs lied to the office but still. Enough was enough.

I live on (in/at?) the darkside and have True.  No service is ever perfect; however, I have been very pleased with True over my prior experiences with ToT, AIS, and 3BB.

I had some issues with True service, but I wrote to the President/CEO this letter:

Bangkok                                                                                                                                                                    April 07, 2017

Dear Mr. XXXX,

My wife and I have been True customers for well over 10 years. Currently we subscribe to TrueOnline, TrueVisions and TrueMove H.

This letter is about our experience with the change to Internet fiber optic cable and its effect on our telephone landline: xxx.

Early in March, True contacted me about its upgrade from ADSL to Fiber Optic, and I explained that we also have a telephone landline on the same ADSL. The True representative told me “not to worry”, and “everything will be fine” and I will be able to use the same number as before. (Of course, having lived in Thailand for many years, when somebody tells you not to worry, that’s exactly the time when you have to worry.)

Anyway, 3 days later my internet was changed, a new router configured and working, but the landline was dead. Asking the technician about that, he told me to wait a few days and it will be active again. During the next 3 weeks, I called True several times to request an update on my landline service and this is what I was told:

1)      There is construction work in your area and it affects all landlines.

2)      Fiber optic is new technology and is not compatible with landlines.

3)      I will have to install a new separate line for my home phone, but I can use the old number.

So, I scheduled an appointment day for the technician to come and install a new landline and after waiting all day and no one showed up, I called True again and this is what I was told:

1)      There is no need to install a new line.

2)      We can activate your home phone on the Fiber optic line, but I will have a new number.

3)      Activation will take 5 days.

After 5 days my landline was still dead. So I called True again and they sent a technician to my home to actually check my line for sure this time. That technician came Friday, March30, but he was told that my problem was the internet (which is working just fine) and not the landline, so he couldn’t resolve the issue. He told me that he would come back the next day in the morning… But, of course nobody showed up the next day and my landline remained without signal… So far, all that True did was waste my time with no-show appointments and no result.

My request is simple: True broke my landline, True has to fix it.

Although there is one positive thing which is working and that is the bill which I received today and which asks me to pay for a landline service which I did not have for over 4 weeks now.

This Monday I contacted the Call Center one last time and I read this letter to the representative, saying that I would mail it to you if I did not receive any update on my problem by the end of the week.

Sincerely,

I mailed this letter registered on a Friday, and voila, on the following Wednesday I was contacted by True, they activated my line with a new number, made sure it was working, and then I received a total of three follow-up calls to make sure it was alright and I was satisfied...

TrueCorp's customer care is at the bottom of the heap. TOT is marginally better. AIS is in a different league. not perfect but just a whole lot better than the rest.

Hows the service? Im in Naklua too and wondering if I should sign up or keep paying the 49 baht a day unlimited 3G. I wouldn't need it every month though. Thats the thing I guess.

Well yes activating a 'landline; with a new number should actually be trivial. They plug the phone into the router the rest is just programming. The fact that you were unable to retain the old number still means you were misled.

When I switched my internet  to True I kept the landline with TOT, just telling them to stick their rubbish ADSL and service! (Actually thy had me sign a form all in Thai which I later learned I was saying I was happy with the service but cancelling because I couldn't afford it!!!)

True kept telling me a tech had been scheduled for this date and another date as I always spoke to a different person. A total of 4 times, then once I got an SMS saying a Tech would come on a set date and he would contact me for the exact time. Another no-show and I waited in all day. When he eventually arrived, he just swapped the router, and touch wood, so far OK. They don't get it that being lied to, having my time wasted and intermittent service is an issue for farangs.

Oh dear, AIS sent me a message they have changed the installation date to 4th of May instead of Monday as we agreed.  2 days ago a technician called me and confirmed Monday .

This is not a good start of our relationship.  I tried to call them now and are waiting for a phone call . I don't want to wait another week .

Yes TIT and guess what , they called me from the office and told me a technician would install for me today .  So after 1 hour suddenly the guy appeared and installed it.

AIS fibre , the cheapest line  590 baht 30/10.  Testing it now with 2 laptops and 2 android devices working good.  Streams  via VPN to Europe  with speeds up to 4-5 mb running smoothly.  No need to upgrade I think  , looks better than the cheapest line from 3BB  .

Just hope it will stay like this , we'll see after a few weeks.
