The boys need toys.  That's the only real explanation - anything else is just smoke and mirrors!

And a few people need their 15%, so that they can start on some serious house-buying in London.

Submarines necessary for national security.    :cheesy:

Sad fact is these plonkers actually believe that.

Lets see now ,The army has gotten their ass kicked in the last seven times they tried to screw with their neighbors in the last 30 years and have a very poor rating in world armies,Most of the Air Forces planes are grounded due to the lack of parts and poor maintenance with the pilots getting very few hours flying a year,The Navy has an aircraft carrier that has only a few foreigners taking off or landing on it in a single seat aircraft or with a local pilot and a foreign pilot in a multi seat aircraft. that has not enough qualified personnel to man it at sea and a gulf that will not be deep enough to hide a submarine under its waters.Oh yes so tell me again Mr Supreme Commander how much you need to protect LOS with your military.

The biggest problem will be finding a shirt large enough to carry ALL of the Supreme Commanders medals. He might have to wear two shirts at the same time.emoji44.png

If this means they won't have the funds to ever try and build a nuclear power plant in the near future let them do it.

combine  the  two  and  build  nuclear  subs!!

I think there is plastic surgery options for the guys that are a little lacking downstairs?. Perhaps this would be more cost effective and if war breaks out at least you could start swinging them around. Less buttons and such. Makes more sense....

On another note, these subs are able to see through garbage? Perhaps all the enemy need to do is throw a few more redbull, m150,.. and plastic bags in the ocean to put these subs out of action.

With 1750 flag officers,  the Thai military certainly needs a few more , under what justification does the Supreme Commander consider this submarine purchase,  what national security would demand  a submarine, to torpedo a student rally.........................................:coffee1:

They could use them to terrorize Rohingya boat people....

Just a month ago one of the Ministerial Muppets came out and said they didn't want the Submarines for aggressive purposes but 'just to learn about them'.    How learning about them can be a requirement of National Security remains a mystery but the truth is that all the armed forces must be given new toys before they hand back power to a Civilian Government.....well kind of....until the next Coup !

I read something in an international defense site a couple of days ago.
It said the Chinese made sure that the submarines were of a type that could not cross the Gulf of Siam (too shallow). Therefore if China had "serious business" in the South China Sea the Thais would not be able to meddle. They were not that worried if they were deployed to the West Coast as only the Indians there.
Anyone know if this is true regarding , sizes, depth etc

Not even on the surface???

Chinese are offering good T&Cs.

Save them having to station their own vessel in Thai patrol area, because all GPS and Intelligence Data will be communicated back to Beijing automatically,  (not that it will be of much value).

It's a matter of national security and thus cannot be disclosed!

More like stupidity and self-aggrandisement under the banner of "national security" :post-4641-1156693976:

One submarine is not going to act as a deterrent to anyone stupid enough to think they should conquer Thailand.

Successive Thai governments still cannot bring peace to the peoples of southern Thailand! What hope have they of repelling a real invasion (apart from  talking the other side to death with official announcements)!

Cloud cuckoo land is alive and well, unfortunately, for the average decent Thai citizen

Who is going to train the Thai Submariners?  Does the Thai Navy have anyone fluent enough in a foreign language to train people in the operation of Chinese submarines?  Submarines are quite different than destroyers and whatever else the Thai Navy has on hand.  Are they going to rent submariners from the Chinese?

If the average depth of the gulf is 58 meters , or 190 feet, they will need rescue equipment pretty quickly.  Have they considered how they will rescue their crews when they crash a sub on the bottom of the Gulf?

This is gonna cost a lot more money than just buying the submarines!

Who wants to place bets that there will be a sub catastrophe in the near future?

"near future"

Not me, merely because it is apparent from the planned purchase-payments, that it will be several years before they take delivery of the first one.
