Moonlover Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 I access the BBC iPlayer almost daily and I noticed a new feature this morning. A message popped up saying that - 'You'll soon need to sign in to watch'. When I investigated further I discovered that to register, one has to tell them your post code. The next step is almost bound to be 'Please enter your Licence Number'. This could be the beginning of the end of worldwide access via VPNs. I shall be very disappointed pointed if we do finally loose it.

I doubt they will ask for a license number. Remember there are many visitors to the UK that can watch BBC without a license, All you have to do is connect via a VPN-service, give them a postal code in London or anywhere else and if they ask for an address , find a hotel .

But it probably will not get around the password requirement when that is brought in. I expect that all get_iplayer users will need to create their own BBC account and input the details into get_iplayer for it to continue downloading programme data effectively.
oldcarguy Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 What is the address and Post Code for Clarksons old BBC office ? I doubt anyone is using that office anymore :)

Moonlover Posted May 13, 2017 Author Posted May 13, 2017 Anyway, it could just be that I'm overreacting. I came across this old news item that explains their motives. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-37477229 I hope it's true. I don't want to be deprived of the world's best TV programs.
