BANGKOK — Police are investigating what caused several large trees to fall on Soi Chit Lom, taking out an electrical pole which fell and killed a motorist Saturday morning.

 

Nitchapat Somjet, 25, was riding a motorbike when she was killed at about 9:30am by the falling utility pole. The pole was knocked down by several large trees next to to Central Chidlom collapsed. Two others were injured and taken for treatmen at a hospital.

Looking at the pictures the trees fell further back, onto the cables which in turn have pulled down the post near the traffic lights.  Was someone cutting the trees? There is no mention, doesn't look like storm damage. 

Could be subsiding soil due to drainage or underground digging then root damage.

 

Now they will go around BKK and remove healthy trees or "pollard" them down to toothpicks.

Exactly. The mindset is utterly ridiculous

They have a bad habit of cutting the roots very close to the trunk when doing any footpath work not taking into consideration the stability of the tree ! sad for the victim
