Brit backpacker accidentally hanged herself in Phuket hotel room after row with boyfriend

You all need to read the Mirror source report, which quotes the Uk Coroner. She ruled it to be death by misadventure, not suicide. She discounted the RTP officers' assesment, and explained in detail her reasons for doing so.

As someone posted earlier, this means the insurance companies will have no excuse not to pay out. 

I hope no one is going to suggest the family bribed the coroner.............?

My thoughts exactly. And how could someone hang themself with a bed sheet unless one end of the bed sheet was attached to a hook or high object to obtain leverage and pull against the neck? It takes considerable force to cause strangulation by hanging. This is why in executions by hanging victims are always dropped from a height or suspended from a height. No need to be an expert to figure this one out.

The only reason a UK coroner would be ruling on a death in another country would be an insurance claim. I dont think its standard practice for a coroner to look into deaths of all brits in other countries, unless they are asked to.

How can one separate hookers from the rest? Seems most of the office workers who go out also do a bit of 'freelance'  work.

Correct, but it seems in this case the boyfriend had other ideas. Girlfriend gets over inebriated, feels tired or has a headache, no problem this is Thailand, I`ll seek my jollies elsewhere. Seems the temptations of some young female flesh were too overwhelming for the guy.

 

Going back 30 years ago when I was single, footloose and fancy free, I went to Majorca for a holiday. There I met many women and guys who had either partners with them or back in Britain bonking around with each other, it was like participating in one mass orgy every night. But during that time I was only 29 years old and easy to find sexual partners in that holiday atmosphere at that age. I met one girl from Liverpool, her name was Valerie, told she she was engaged to a wonderful guy in Britain and she was on a 2 week holiday in Spain with her mates. We witnessed her sleeping with 2 to 3 guys every night including me. Back in those days was when most people had never heard of aids and hardly anyone practised safe sex, the girls were on the pill and that was that.

 

Young couples going on holiday together to exotic destinations can lead to where temptations become too strong, for both guys and gals, not a good idea, me thinks.

According to the news articles that came out right after she died, the boyfriend found her with the bedsheet wrapped around her neck and the other end tied to the doorknob.

"Hurt by her boyfriend’s words, Ms Brown left Patong Beach and went to their apartment at around 3:00. When her boyfriend returned home three hours later and opened the door, he found Ms Brown dead with a bed sheet wrapped around her neck and the other side connected to a door knob."

 

When the police arrived, she was face up on the bed. 

"The victim, 27-year-old Abigail Louise Brown, was laying face-up on her bed. The area around the neck showed bruises and pressure marks. At the end of the bed, officers found a loose bed sheet which they bagged as evidence."

Unfortunately it seems to be suizide. Very hard to understand for relativs and friends. I lost 2 Friends in this way, i know the pain. RIP.

What i dont get about this,is the accidental hanging. To hang ones self, the idea is to deprive ones self of oxygen.Unless one is able to copy the style where one puts a noose around their neck and jumps from a height, great enough to snap the 2nd and 3rd vertibrea , of the spine,instantaneously, bringing about instant death. This girl 'accidentally' hanged herself with a bed sheet. A bed sheet, and it would have been a double, is a very cumbersome thing to turn into a noose capable of carrying out the procedure. Also the very material of the sheet would not snap the neck, as a rope or a belt would.It does not say what she was hanging from, or how high the the body was off the floor.I cant see any way that a bed sheet would be the correct ligature for the job.Also i dont see a 26 year old woman, killing herself over a transgression of a boyfriend to the degree that the press has stated. Did the young lady have any form of prior mental illness, mental frailty, paranoia,or any problems that would have caused her to do this. If she had, then her family and boyfriend would have been aware of this and thought that maybe a visit this country, with its reputation, would have been inadvisable.Was there a space of time between her returning to the room, and him doing the same? Because if there was, then the police will put it down to person or persons unknown.But even then ( and i dont know what floor their room as on.) If she was that intent on ending her life, then surely a jump would have been the way out. I just dont see her, wasting time,  manhandling a large sheet into a hanging noose.And this is all meant to have been done by accident.

Briefly , people do put a rope around their necks deliberately , but do not intent to hang themselves till death , but they quickly loose consciousness and are then unable to remove the rope and they do actually hang themselves .

   It has happened numerous times when people play asphyxiation sex games , 

She may have put the sheet around her neck, to shock her bf when he returned , fell unconscious and died

When one is distraught, one does not think logically. I don't even have to be distraught not to think clearly, but then I'm old and slowly going ...................

Anyone that watches Asian movies knows that using a sheet or similar without jumping is not uncommon.

Anyway, RIP to the young woman.

Yes, or a towel or a shirt. It only has to obstruct the airway, and one does not have to jump if one is determined enough.
