Hi I will soon be applying for the Thai mutliple entry tourist visa. I understand most requirements and have what is needed. However I'm having problems with the letter of employment. What does my boss need to write in this letter? Because I'm actually leaving my job to travel Thailand for 5 months. I will be grateful for any help

In many countries, the letter of employment is not inspected closely, being seen as one of the less important requirements. I would suggest something (with company letterhead) like:

Quote

This is confirm that <first name> <last name>  is employed by <company name> and we are aware that he is taking an extended leave of absence to travel in Asia, including multiple visits to Thailand.

This involves no lies, and should be sufficient I would think.

The purpose of the letter is to demonstrate you have a job to go back to, however, I don't think it needs to say anything more than that you are employed. The requirement will vary on where you apply.

How is this a lie? An extended leave of absence includes the possibility of an indefinite one. Obviously, they are aware of the planned absence if they are writing the letter.

If he's leaving his job, and not returning, it is not a leave of absence.

You can be retired or self employed and etc. If self employed you have to provide a company/business registration or if in the UK self assessment tax form.

No, they are available to unemployed or retired peeps too. In fact, there are embassies/consulates out there that only require you to turn up with the form filled in, pay the fee & hand over your passport. No need for any other paperwork. At least that was the way it was last year.

You are over generalising. The requirements vary depending on where you apply, but an unemployed person will not get a METV in the U.K.

You are over generalising, retired people are unemployed.

Plus, do you have any evidence of an unemployed, (not retired), being refused an METV in the UK ?

Nonsense.

Retired = "having left one's job and ceased to work."

Unemployed = "(of a person) without a paid job but available to work."

The MFA want people issued with a METV to have a job. Consular services have issued METV's to retired people, but I have never seen reports from unemployed people being granted that visa in the UK.

If you are claiming unemployed (not retired) people are being awarded the visa the onus is on you to prove it. If you're right, which you're not, it would save everyone a lot of hassle as they just need to put their occupation down as unemployed!

When this was first started, in Ireland, proof of "welfare benefits" (unemployment) or Retired + Pension was deemed acceptable in lieu of employment.
