KOH PHANGAN: -- The head of the Samui forestry department has been transferred as an investigation is set to begin over land encroachment in Koh Phangan.

National forestry and soldiers and DSI investigators were in Phangan yesterday inspecting a tract of 42 rai of land earmarked for a private airstrip, reported Thai Rath.

Chief Chollathit Suratwadee has ordered the local forestry department to conduct an investigation. He said the airport plans encroach on forestry land.

There will be some delay as the chief of the department - Arkhom Chaiyot - has now been transferred to Chaiya.

A new leader of the Koh Samui forestry department will take over from June 1st, reported Thai Rath.

There are talk about some 40 rai being forrest land occupied without permission, and some 80 rai of Nor Sor 3 title deed, which may have been unlawfully issued. If that's so, there's not much airport landing strip left of what was supposed to be 150 rai in total...:whistling:

Interesting how every dubious official get transferred, as opposed to being arrested like any other normal person would in a situation like this. Not exactly sending out the right message, are they?

Some years ago the police chief in Pattaya got caught, he complained in public that he paid 6 million baht for this position, he got transferred to be police chief for railway police in Chiang mai with two employees.
