BANGKOK: -- The Highways department have order the temporary closure of a road bridge after pictures posted on social media showed it coming apart.

Officials were on the scene at the bridge leading to the Future Park shopping center north of Bangkok and found some worrying gaps.

They deemed that the bridge was in a dangerous condition and shut it down as they called expert engineers in for their opinion of what to do next.

Pictures from concerned motorists had earlier been posted online.

while it's good that social media  gets things done here it's a pity that there are not other balances and checks to ensure people in positions of responsibility are actually doing their jobs.

and the paradox is... maybe they're not doing their jobs because they're on social media...

so the expansion gap is too large ...wait till it gets hot and see then...or fill it in and watch when the bikes and  cars get rocketed into space when it launches them into the air

Probably some of that quality Chinese engineering.:shock1:

Given how Thai opinion and even Government departments seem to cater to the sway of public opinion in the online media, it would be great to see a straw poll carried out in Thai online media to see who they would vote for in an election now.

I wonder who would be brave enough to try that?

That would be the same quality of engineering that the British government plans to let loose on a nuclear power facility.
