Bangkok pub raided for violating closing-hour rule
By The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Troops raided a pub in Bangkok’s Lat Phrao district early Friday and found some drugs and six drug abusers as well as two underage pub-goers.

The Kik Bar 2 on Soi Pukkasawek off Prasert Manoonkit Road was raided at 2.30am by 20 troops, led by Colonel Noppasit Sitthisophon, commander of the First Cavalry Regiment, and Banthit Leelapata, an officer from the Office of the Narcotics Control Board.

The troops found some 200 pub-goers still dancing when they raided the bar. Two of those in the pub were aged under 20 and six others tested positive for drugs, Noppasit said. They also found eight undocumented migrants.

A small quantity of ketamine wrapped in a Bt20 note was found on the floor.

Noppasit said he conducted the raid after his task force received complaints from the public that the pub violated the 2am closing-hour rule.

The officials also found that the pub did not have a licence.

The pub manger, Supawut Namkrut, 32, was arrested and charged with operating an entertainment place without a licence, violating the closing-hour rule, and selling alcoholic drinks outside the legal hours. The undocumented migrants were charged with entering the Kingdom without proper documents.

"The officials also found that the pub did not have a licence."

How unusual for a pub not to have a licence!  I bet it's been open for some time; obviously, the brown envelope was stuck in the post.

True,But the army led this raid and not the BIB (the recipients of the envelops) thus pissing the BIB off as their intake of baht will be reduced this month.

Yes, but as sure as ducks can swim, there'll be a sharing of the spoils somewhere; the army and the BiB pretend to travel in opposite directions, but I wouldn't bank on it.

Just what on earth are the army doing out of their barracks at 02.30 raiding civilian venues, surely they have better things to do like catching up with their beauty sleep so they are ready to defend the country from enemies with their new chinese tanks.

Local police and licensing officials should face disciplinary action for allowing that Night Club to operate without a licence.

If they are dancing etc then it is a club not just a Pub?

In the past the british govt has regularly called upon the army to supplement police resources.

But hey that is good old back home so therefore irrepproachable.

Another case for passing the Brown Envelopes each week. Miss a week and the RTP calls the Army for a raid. That way it looks like the

Army did the raid and not the RTP. These guys are getting smarter each week.
