4am? How the hell long does it take to get a ballot count in 2017? In Canada we have 6 time zones and get it done from start to finish quicker.

While I am a Tory voter I'm glad she's gone.

Looks like Theresa May has miscalculated ... should have attended TV debates and not been so arrogant by introducing a very unpopular dementia tax.

Yes she miscalculated, but she was honest because she was upfront about the tax situation.

There was no dementia tax. It was simply an attempt to get the users of services to pay a little  bit more for  the expensive services provided. It is unfair to burden young people with a tax load that the older people should have contributed towards.

The USA voted for Trump, and many in the UK voted for a Corbyn who is more daft and far more dangerous than Trump.

The Tories actually increased their vote. It's the SNP which has seen a bit of a collapse.

They don't stuff the ballot boxes as fast as they do in Canadian rural ridings.  Are you aware that the UK has a higher voting participation which means more ridings and more votes to count and verify, d-uh.

By the same token, it could be seen as unfair to burden older people with the tax load needed to fund free university tuition for the youngsters

The BBC election night host seems lost half the time. Checked Wiki and the bloke is 78 bloody years old. Is it a lifetime position like the House of Lords? If not it seems past time he got put out to pasture.

Go to the BBC home page. It's based upon 561 of 650 seats and makes sense.

UK vote share change since 2015

Labour  +9.5%
Conservative  +5.9%
Liberal Democrat  -0.6%
Scottish National Party  -1.8%
Green Party  -2.1%
UKIP -10.9%

Small shifts in key ridings combined with an erosion of the  SNP and UKIP  block.
What's interesting  is that Cons & Labour split the UKIP voters who switched.
The results are a reflection of the  many voters fed up with UKIP and SNP and who returned to their natural political homes.

That small shift in  voters in Scotland is responsible for some impressive  seat  gains for both Labour and Conservatives.

Anna Soubry calling for May to step down now - has anyone seen anything of Boris?

They older people per se  are not. Rather it is the middle class and wealthy demographics who shoulder the burden of paying for the fun time of the students. Tuition fees should indeed increase and move to at least 50% which would allow the universities to invest in  new facilities. .

His dad was on earlier, denying any interest in the boy running for the  expected opening.

The exit polls are WRONG. Have another look in 3 hours and May will be vindicated. And the £ will roar back.

Have to disagree this time.

It's a debacle for her and the tories.

Have to (sort of) laugh at exchange rates though.

Sterling crashed after the brexit referendum result.

Increased somewhat when a large tory majority was expected (even though May stood on a 'better no deal than bad deal' platform - whereas the other parties promised 'any deal is better than no deal').

Have fallen again now that it looks as if the tory party may have a far smaller majority making a soft brexit (or possibly no brexit) far more likely!

That chap does not represent  Canada. His political views and biased opinions suggest someone more at home in Bolivia or Zimbabwe.

That's a 400 page thread up the swannee. "May prepares for tough Brexit negotiations".

Only 3 dead certs from this: Corbyn stays on and goodbyes to May and Sturgeon.

If one was expecting the landslide, yes. However, the  increases in voter share by both Labour and Conservative in Scotland point to a revival of the parties. yes, she was an opportunistic twit for calling the election, but  she genuinely thought she needed her own mandate.

Spicoli, what are you smoking? Higher participation means more riding? A tiny country with a concentrated population should result in a faster count. Each poll gets counted as they close here. Not sure what they do there where it takes this long.
