Foreigner charged with smuggling baby otters
By The Nation

BANGKOK: -- A Japanese man is in police custody after allegedly being caught on Sunday preparing to board a departing flight at Suvarnabhumi International Airport with 10 live baby otters.

Airport police superintendent Pol Colonel Chutrakul Yosmadee said Masaru Tomori, 42, stands accused of attempting to export a protected animal species without permission and of bypassing tax and Customs procedures in attempting to carry goods out of the country.

The otters were found in his luggage as he was about to board a flight to Japan’s Narita Airport.

A representative of the Japanese Embassy in Bangkok was expected to visit Tomori at the airport police station on Monday afternoon.

Otters are one of my favourite animals , so smart. I hope they took better care of them than the Japanese idiot.

Probably because they are the ultimate 'cute' in Japan now and consequently extremely valuable:

There was another Japanese guy caught at the airport, not so long ago,

he also had otters, turtles and tortoises, pleased they catch these people,

but also worried about what happens to the animals, after Customs

confiscates them ,just hope they don't end up like the 100 + very rare,

Madagascan tortoises that vanished from a supposed sanctuary.
