I am a British citizen working in Shanghai, my Thai wife and our two sons are also here in Shanghai. We are planning a trip to Hawaii over Christmas, and we have a passport issue for our children. Our sons hold both Thai and UK passports, however their Chinese resident permit is in their Thai passport and not their UK passports. As we know Thai nationals need a visa for the US and UK nationals don't.

So, can i book the flights using their UK passports and then check-in using the UK passports, then when we get to immigration show the Thai passports?

Thanks for your replies in advance.

Yup, should be no issue.

You may need to show the resident permits to the check-in staff too, but no need to show anyone else.

On the way back reverse the process.

Thanks Crossy. Just another two questions, when presenting the Thai passport and boarding pass to Chinese immigration, would they have the airline information? Or are they just looking to see that the boarding pass and passport names match?

Cheers

The only time there may be an issue is if the names don't match, both my passports are in the same name so it's not an issue I've had.

I doubt the man on the desk either has, nor cares about, the airline information, but that's not absolute knowledge.

You're of course correct UK Citizens don't need a visa to visit the US, but I'm assuming you're aware that you must obtain electronic authorisation to travel prior to travel.
