BANGKOK — At least 25 unofficial motorcycle taxi operators were arrested Friday at BTS Mo Chit.

In an ongoing crackdown on unsanctioned operators, police and soldiers were stopping and charging them with either using a personal vehicle for a taxi service or wearing an unauthorized taxi vest.

Amazing how these taxi chaps could get away with fake vests in front of the other regular drivers...

Soon, one will not be able to be sure if a chap in a brown uniform with golden wings is a genuine or a fake...!!

Terrible indeed...fake police in civilian clothing is disturbing and common worldwide I guess....but if they start to fake with uniforms it is a bit annoying and worrying!

This gets back to the use of a correctly registered vehicle. The vehicles registered to carry passengers have yellow licence plates. It is very obvious to all and sundry if the vehicle (car bike bus) is not authorised to carry passengers.

As to the fake vests I, like observer90210, am surprised the real vest owners did not take action to deter the fakes as these turf disputes usually result in a loss of face for the real riders and the resultant violence is a measure of Thainess. Remember a real vest costs upward of B 30 000.

Probably some real drivers that drive personal bikes sometimes and some fake drivers who have managed to get their hands on a yellow plate somehow

They already swap the jackets so when one guy finishes a shift he can go to sleep and get paid from renting his jacket and his bike to someone else who will do the night shift etc

The whole system is a shambles....
