Two young workers who went into a pet food mixing drum to make repairs were killed instantly yesterday following an explosion.

An older man supervising the operation at the mouth of the drum was seriously injured.

The accident happened at the Rian Thong Fit 1992 Co Ltd in Bang Len yesterday afternoon.

Rescuers at the scene needed to use breathing apparatus to retrieve the bodies that were tied to a board to bring them out of the 12 meter high drum.

The operation took four hours, said Daily News.

The tank with an 80 centimeter opening was used to mix pet food. Police believe that gasses in the tank exploded killing the men though a full investigation is currently underway.

Dead at the scene were Sumet Khamkongkaew, 25, and nineteen year old Netiphoom Meerung.  Phut Pinthong, 60, who was outside the drum was taken to hospital in Nakorn Pathom city in a serious condition.

RIP the workers

Gas built up in pet food tank...is that why my dog farts a lot??

pet food contains a fair amount of vegetation, maybe methane gas build-up?

But why would it explode?

Were they welding inside the drum or did someone "light up a ciggy"?
