BANGKOK: -- Fugitive ex-monk Wirapol Sukphol, better known as Luang Pu Nenkham, is due to arrive in Bangkok on Wednesday night, after he declined to appeal against a US extradition ruling, the director of the Department of Special Investigation said on Tuesday.

DSI chief Pol Colonel Phaisit Wongmuang said Wirapol is expected to arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport at 10pm or 11pm.

He said the fugitive declined to appeal against an extradition ruling by a court in California.

He is wanted in Thailand on charges of fraud, sexual harassment against a juvenile, and money laundering.

Efforts to extradite Luang Pu Nenkham have been ongoing since last year after a request to do so was made by the DSI to the Office of the Attorney General.

The Office of the Attorney General worked closely with US authorities until the court in California permitted the extradition.

Thailand and the US have a criminal extradition treaty.

Looking forwards to hearing more about his Monk-ey business.

Please don't bail him out,as he will be away again to a country you

cannot extradite him from.as he has already decided not to appeal,

maybe some deal already done ?

regards Worgeordie

yes just another 300,000 to go but of course already paid off the Thai judiciary and their controllers so 1 years sentance then legitimised with billions stashed.  Along with many other monks and politicians

Declined to appeal his extradition? Let's hope he hasn't already cut a deal for over here.

Will be interesting to see where this goes (or where he goes).

Thailand have to make an example of this piece of garbage so no way does he walk away with just a slap on the wrist and a fine. Those of you just guessing about him being a flight risk, having billions stashed away somewhere are just talking out of your ar.s.es. He has been an embarrassment for the Buddhist hierachy, the Thai government and now that they have him back here you can bet they are going to make a very public example of him.

Well I would have bet against this ever happening ,

as other posters have already indicated, he may have bought his way out of this already or will do so

1 down, many many many more to go.

Not surprised when most people in this country think that they can buy their way to heaven...

Why would he waive his right to appeal; why would he allow himself to be returned to Thailand?  If he ever returns, it will be on condition he shares his good fortune with the judiciary.

Thai judges are lining up for this case ;whoever gets it is going to be a very rich man

Nabbed! Perhaps he should have drunk some Red Bull, as its supposed to give you wings (and never get caught).............

He must have has all his assets seized, or he would have had a lawyer appeal.   He could have stalled for a month or two, maybe more.

? Trial goes on for years and in few months every one forget the story and he is out on bail, free as a bird and few gets to share his wealth....Interesting if its really true, more interesting would be to know what happens next

You mean like the Red Bull chappie, where after several years the authorities are still gathering evidence to issue an extradition request.
