Thai Language School in Bangkok for 3 to 6 month - ed visa

Hi guys,
i'm looking for a reasonably priced and serious thai language school (beginner level) for 3 to 6 month, with teachers who know how to teach to foreigners (in small groups), that would allow me to progress reasonabily fast. I will need some flexibility, as I'll have to travel out of the country for a week or so, once a while. I would prefer to devote it one or two days of the week (2-4 hrs daily) than every day. And of course, the school should be able to get me the papers for the appropriate ed visa.

The location doesnt matter much, as long as it is not too far from Sukhumvit rd between Siam and Onnut BTS.

Thanks in advance

Try AUA, hear it's still going.
They have a (used to have) a Structured Approach course that goes for 6 weeks I think.
This course you practise all the common structured sentences.
Maybe ask tgiezer (maybe wrong spelling) he's great.

Thanks for your input, carlyai.

Unfortunately i don't have so much time to devote to the classes. Ideally 2x4 hrs in the week.

Anyone, any other idea ?

I read on this forum about Language Express near Chit Lom and Pro Language in Asoke. Do you guys have any experience with those schools ? Are they any good ?

Cheers

Would you guys have experencience on the above mentionned schools (or others) ?

As time passes quick over here, i would like to be able to find a good school asap, in

order to get my ed-visa on time.

Cheers

I remember the man now, tod-daniels, he reported on many schools in the past, I haven't seen anything of his posts for a few years. He was banned by this site but used to follow thai-langauge.com , you could try to post there.

I have attended AUA as well as Language Express. Both offer flexible classes, attend when you want. AUA method is quit different from other schools where Language Express uses the typical Karaoke method. I liked the fact that LX teaches writing/reading alone with speaking. AUA charges a lot less per lesson than most other schools including LX. No recommendation here, get a trial lesson at different schools before you sign up.

I went to this ...http://www.aaathai.school/ ... but it's 3 hours , 5 days a week ... takes 6 months to complete - read, write and speak. They also do the visa for you.

Well worth it if you are serious about learning Thai. But if you can only afford 2-4 hours a week, then you are probably better off searching for a school that offers private tutoring that will allow flexible scheduling - but I am guessing this will come at a cost.

Good luck !

Unless you are exceptionally skilled at language acquisition part time learning for 6 months is not enough time. That being said, AUA has flexible classes and you can attend when ever you like. I still have an account with a few lessons available after not attending for several years. I have also attended Language Express and can confirm they have flexible classes. I attended twice a week for 2 hours each time. However, I recommend a more structured course if you want to become proficient in Thai language. Both schools can help with visa.

Thanks for your inputs.

I visited both pro language and language express and got a trial at LX yesterday.

When i visited them before the trial, they made me a quite good impression (except the tremendous pressure they would make on me to get me as a new student. After the trial they insisted so bad that i had to leave in the middle of the conversation.) and seemed to match my needs (in term of flexibility) pretty well.

But then, after the trial my impression got different: even though the class was small (6 students), the method just didnt seem adequate for such a complicated language:

1. the students would repeat the words all together after the teacher, which does not allow the teacher to correct the pronouncing, which seems to be a key point in thai language.

2. After that, the students were asked to fill in gasps in sentences from the book with new vocabulary words and practise it in pairs. The teacher did not seem to pay big attention on the pronoucing, which, according to my understanding, is the main challenge in thai.

3. As no precise homeworks are given (even though everybody is free to do so) this seems less than enough (at least for me) to be able to acquire a solid basis.

Therefore, indeed, accourding to my needs (good method, flexibility, not more than 2 days (but min 8h) from mon to fri), private classes would be optimal.

Do you guys have any school coming to your mind, that would offer such a service for a reasonable price? I'm afraid I'm gonna have no other option than a school (for private lesson) as the ed visa will be necessary for me.

If none come to your mind, are you guys aware of a school that would use a better and more professional method and still offer flexibility (allowing to miss a few classes and then catch up later)?

Thanks
