A committee will be set up to investigate the director of Samsenwittayalai School in Bangkok for a serious breach of discipline for allegedly demanding 400,000 baht in “tea money” from a parent in exchange for enrolling his child to study in Mathayom Sueksa 1, said Office of the Basic Education Commission (Obec) secretary-general Karun Sakulpradit.

Mr Karun on July 19 revealed this after a meeting with Education Minister Teerakiat Jareonsettasin to consider a report from a fact-finding committee set up to investigate the allegation against Viroj Samruan, the school director.

Mr Karun went on to say that 400,000 baht is almost double the normal amount of tea money involved in acceptance to a Mathayom School of this standing. "It is particularly heinous on this occasion as the director did not pass any of the money up the chain to his superiors" said Mr Koran.
