What are the odds that like other systems in Thailand, CCTV, etc, where the bid for installation was won by a family member of a person on the board that awards the bid? And more than 1/2 of the sirens/CCTV cams, are simply "dummies" Of COURSE they were billed for each and every one being a working unit? hhhmmmm,,,, I wonder?

Not to worry...... If the warning system fails, 'The Government' soon will have "Submarines" to rescue the 'tsunami victims'.................. LOL...........

Don't worry...I am sure they will fix the warning system after the next tsunami disaster.

One of them says it needs maintenance, the other says it's fine and working.

Why does this not surprise me.  Every time a test is done in Patong at least halve the system is out of order.

The lies displayed are just reckless and endanger everybody. There is enough money to set up silly Welcome to Patong beach signs, even at the entrance to Bangla Street, as if people don't know where they are and why.

So how come nobody takes care of the early warning system.

In Hawaii which hasn't had a deadly tsunami in about a half a century, the sirens are tested monthly along with the statewide warning system. Thailand can take a lesson.

And this is part of the reason why I always insist Thailand is not really a developing nation. It is a third world nation, with a limited amount self respect. Otherwise, things like this would simply be "handled". We are talking about a few thousand baht here. The old excuse about not having enough money simply does not apply. This is about apathy, indifference, the arrogance that allows some to feel like one is above the laws of nature, mismanagement, corruption, and poor leadership. Guys, lets get it together. Lets man up, and do the right thing to protect both the people and the tourism industry. Lazy is not good. Not acceptable. Take responsibility. 

Well it has been 10 years since the big wave, and for some that is ancient history.

  After all those submarines seemed more important at least for the Thai Navy.

A hundred percent of cars need  regular maintenance.

Why are some people are pouring scorn on the Thais? I think the headline says it all:-

Along with the accompanying statements:-

You mean to tell me the warming system has to have maintenance just like the trains and planes and motor cars -  that sounds like a recipe for disaster. 

The Thai better hire the Japanese to maintain the tsunami-system. It would make me feel better at least and i bet more foreigners think the same.

Let's put things into perspective: Thai authorities(regardless who they are) do not care about more than 20.000 lifes a year on the roads, why would they care about more than 5000 every century? All this is unfortunately political circus and communication bla bla. Do you realy think western countries are better on this? Not so sure !!!!

Work and maintenance need money to complete, that's now all in certain private hands or paying for toys
