"Tourism Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul said on Sunday that the ministry is preparing to hire Bollywood stars to promote tourist attractions in Thailand and draw high-spending tourists from Southern India."

Are these not jobs reserved for Thais!  Seems the rules can be bent when there's money at stake.

This report maybe true but this will not show you real India. There is huge income difference which this report can't show, so be logical. Indians like to spend alot on their holidays whether its Europe or Asia.

I have seen the real India, and it stank.

Or do you believe the rich Indians portray the real India ?:coffee1:

Hilarious! Most of the farang posters here simply judge Indians as a general ,based on what they have seen the lower-class indians behave at the cheap girlie bars at Pattaya and Patpong in Bangkok or Nana....or about escort websites, speaks volumes about these posters! and what strata of society they too belong too. If I am to seek what a whore thinks and based my life on it.......hilarious....by the way, whores here, even the type that some of the farangs are married too, if I offer them the right among of money, they will drink every drop of my cum! Even if it stinks!

Talking about Wat Kek...where all the  priests are Indians....please take a vist there at any time of the day or any week......hundreds if of thais coming by the hour to pray to Indian  Hindu Gods. Also observe when they blessed smelly Indian  foods are distributed to the devotees there, take a look at the thais scrambling for it. Hilarious....yeap.....some of the farangs here have been staying here for ages...but please go outto the normal and decent places and have a look at whats happening around the world these days instead of being ignorant bigots. (or maybe you do not have the funds to do so.....only frequent the bars offering the cheap beers where you get to see the cheap Indians go to and where the cheap whores give you their insights of life and society or maybe you ended up marrying one of them.....lol!)

Well, I do not consider my self as poor and when I travel to Thailand I stay in hotels/resort from 3-5 stars. My experience with not all BUT a lot of the indians is lack of behavior and basic education especially during brakfast time where they rape the buffet, fight with each other and fill their bags with food before they leave their tables which look like a war zone....The smell just comes as an additional bonus by their presence...

one thing racist thais hate more than chinese pissing in sinks is indians pi55ing in sinks and stinking the place out.
I worked with a very respectable indian guy and he well educated had class and money but hassle and disrespect he got at times was shocking . Most Indians not keen fans on Thailand so can't see it likely they get massive numbers easily, even with clever marketing culture issues will remain .

Unless Thailand addresses the very real infrastructure problems highlighted by the current level of tourism , think Pattaya beach , koh Samui , airport delays. The country will plunge into a self induced environmental and logistical nightmare.

Corruption , nepotism , greed , self interest and a complete lack of forward planning will kill the golden goose , just a matter of time.

TAT making another mistake.  Going after mass tourism rather than quality tourists....who spend more money.  Another way to ruin the environment and historical sights here in Thailand.  Mass tourism isn't the way to go.

Mass tourism can work if an integrated infrastructure and investment programme is implemented to run apace with the increased foot fall. Experience tells us that Thailand is unable or unwilling to comply so yes it will end in tears.

There goes the neighbourhood. In England, if an indian moves in next door, the value of your house disintegrates, and there is a very good reason for that :(

Did you emigrate in the early seventies or just get caught in a time warp ?

But a sector do stay in Thai 5 / 6 star hotels and quite of few of them are utterly arrogant and speak very rudely to the hotel staff.

Had family member working at 6 star hotel in Bkk, when groups from India confirmed (one example - wedding parties) there was a rush of applications to take leave.

Looks to me that a lot of farangs here think that they are only the rich spenders with money in Thailand. But it seems that a lot of them are just as ignorant or if not worsts than the uneducated  thais from the rural outlands! Get a life and go see the world dudes. They are a lot or rich Indians and also a lot of middle-class indians these days who have money to spend and also more educated than the farang bums here who could not make it in their own home countries! yes, there are Indians and Chinese cheap travellers who are ill-mannered just like a lof of these low end uneducated farangs too but do not make statements to lump all as one. By the way, you can find a lot of farangs in thailand competing with teh thais for jobs these days, staying in cheap apartment buildings (Not Condos), taking buses or riding motorbikes and eating at cheap establishments with not much money to spend on luxuries etc or worst even a lot doing farming works upcountry and living like the rural thais. So should be start a website in thais and start asking thais to post pictures and make comments about these farangs??????? I also notice that most of these farangs who make comments about these things, in real life are nothing ore than bums actually, envious of the richer thais or other Asians.

So you respond to racist sterotypes of Indians by yourself stereotyping (most ! ) Farangs. Hypocritical , ignorant and not in the least bit helpfull.

Always very funny to see foreigners in a country ranting at other foreigners!!...perhaps it gives a erroneous feeling of better integration?....

Just remember for the locals, all farangs are in put in the same bucket!...the walking ATM bucket that is!!

First thing, Indians are not farangs, and if you believe that Thais regard them in the same way as farangs you are naive

There is lot of misleading information about Indians...

1. Indians like to travel Europe not Asia on their holiday vacations. They have enough money for that(so dont worry for your tip when you go back to your country and see yourself in your real life)

2. Indian education standard is way much higher than Farangs who can't even speak proper English and think themself superior in Thailand.

3. Indians are much better tourist than farangs who are begging on roads and selling their baby pictures for money.Totally shameful.

4. Indians respect women alot . And thats also true some are totally ridicolous who spoiling Indians image by misbehaving with women. Sorry for that. And I think such morons are everywhere in the world.

So dont judge all Indians on that.

In your dreams !

Rich, educated, so what.

I bought a house from an Indian family, here in Thailand, all very friendly and cooperative until settlement day then they threw every trick they could muster into the picture and got abusive, all costing me many tens of thousands of Baht so that my family could have the house they wanted. Took years to get to the end of regular visits from debtors, cops and whatever trying to unravel the debts they absconded from. I didn't pay and of their debts but several times had to go through police questioning to help the cops find the Indian family. They actually operated an air-conditioning company in Pattaya, turned out the last big stock order they placed for their own stock was never paid for. Years later it was discovered they sold the stock (that they had never paid for) to another company in Udon Thani. The Indians had gone back to India.

Years later I sold the same house, 2 times folks who had placed a deposit suddenly withdrew and wanted deposit returned quickly. By chance I was talking to a neighbor who revealed that an Indian family in the same Soi were intimidating the potential buyers after following them out of the village. The Indians were hoping to force me to reduce the price.

My company HO had dealings with several large Indian companies (against my advice) and were never paid very large amounts of money.

A condo I bought in Bkk needed total renovation - several times I discovered an Indian condo owner on the next floor had taken the workers to his unit to do work, having convinced them that the paper he was holding had my signature to approve that he could take the workers to his unit. Total lies. Also cunning enough to have his wife sit in the lobby and call him instantly the boss of the renovation company appears in the lobby and the Indian very quickly got the workers to run back to my unit.

Same Indian found another renovation team to complete the work on his unit then told the renovation people I had agreed to pay for the renovations to his unit, then he disappeared for 6 months.

Maid who works part time for my family loaned her mobile phone to Indian guests at her hotel, Indians said they would return her phone within 30 minutes during which time they fled the hotel (no payment) and disappeared.

Owner of the small hotel I often use in Bkk has banned Indian guests because of wild excuses to avoid paying a deposit, all meals and drinks charged to the room, check out day comes and quests have disappeared without paying one Baht and sheets, towels etc., have disappeared.

Another hotel I'm aware of in Pattaya - hotel opening day, Indians check-in. Maid goes to room next morning at around 9.00 am hoping she can clean the room. Everything gone including micro-wave and small fridge. They never checked-out, just disappeared.

Indian (never seen before) came to my office in Bkk and just walked into my room and told me a complex story about 'knowing my friend' then asked for a personal reference to present to my own office in Canada, where he was hoping to get work. I refused, so he wrote the reference himself and faked my signature from a website (actually not my real signature). He got caught when I got an e.mail from my company office in Canada.

Not high on my list of people to trust.

The wealthy of most nations mostly go to Europe and the USA..then there's Japan, Korea, China Aust and NZ....Thailand is quite low on their "to do" places to go.

Expect more working class people from mass nations as it's cheap here....and the TAT only has to report increasing numbers to the boss.....!

Because if there was a slightest bit of sense in your comment, the real estate value in Kensington Palace area would have dropped.

Meanwhile the stupiditos from farangland (where money drop from the sky) spending thousands of dollars per week each will find other places

Have found other place that is why Bollywood is needed

Well said. It gives them a (false) sense of superiority - something they could never feel back in Falagistan.

These tourists, Indian and Chinese, may not spend thousands of Baht a night in soapy bars, beer bars, brothels, etc. but they do help to keep hotel occupancy up; restaurants full; bus and taxi companies on the roads; etc. This in turn keeps a lot of staff in employment.

They, too, are just as entitled to a holiday abroad.

On the contrary it's people like you that think you are superior, you think playing the race card gives you the moral high ground, politicians used to try to brainwash us with the term colour prejudice until they worked out that some nationalities of colour are actually quite likeable, unlike anyone from the subcontinent.

No dreams ! Joke of the year! Indians will take more than give! They will bring their own chappaties and tents here to save on  restaurants and hotels. Name a country in the world where a country has become prosperous because of indians presence???

I have been here 30+ years.

They call Indians 'kek'.

The Hindu temple on Silom road is called Wat Kek.

Don't shoot the messenger mate, but the Thais in general certainly do not like Indians.

Indians are "kaak".  Chinese are "jek".  Thais have a word for all of them.  A Thai guy here in the US who owned about 4 restaurants was Thai/Chinese.  He introduced himself as "Jek".  Too bad he didn't pay employees on time due to poor money management.  He was a showman.

Years ago in Loei, my wife knew an Indian guy from school.  When he heard that we were going to the USA for a visit, he wanted us to bring back some Hank Williams country music tapes.  No Bollywood for that guy.

I love Indian food, so my wife is always telling me I should have married a 200 pound Indian woman in a Sari to cook for me.  That or she shows me a picture of a black gal weighing 300 pounds and tells me she found my girlfriend's picture.

"Kheak" which basically means visitor, perhaps it shares similar roots to the Chinese word for guest, 客.

"Jek" is an adoptation of the Chinese dialect (likely Teochew or Hokkien) word for uncle,  extremely patriarchal but that's the Chinese influence in Thailand.
