Video: Swords knives and clubs - yet more shocking student violence on the streets of Bangkok

A video filmed on a dash cam in a passing car showed a violent altercation between two groups of warring students on the streets of Bangkok.

The student gang warfare - a perennial problem in Bangkok - has been at the head of he news after several bad cases recently.

In the latest violence two groups of young men wielded swords, "Sparta" knives and clubs as a chase began. When one group were unable to exact revenge on the other they took out thr frustrations by damaging a motorcycle.

Apparently there were no serious injuries after the 8am school fight in Phuttamonthon Sai 2.

Lak Song police told Thai Rath online that they were aware of the incident that was between two of the three apprentice engineering schools in the area.

Those involved are yet to be apprehended.

For Glory and pride of the school which they will be with for 2 or 3 years time.

All for bragging rights during nightly drinking sessions after driving the tuk tuk.

its a gang and turf culture just like in many down trodden areas of big cities and considering imo most of this country is "down trodden" with the current jumta its any wonder.

and drive a tuk tuk, i doubt it, to young they'd get slaughtered by that gang.

It is stretching things more than a bit to blame the current "jumta" for these events.  The social and education backgrounds to these clashes goes back generations if not centuries.

Amazing Thailand

Not just Thailand it's everywhere, the scene shown reminds me of Chicago, Philadelphia, LA , Paris, London etc, etc. on a Friday or Saturday night, difference is in the US it's guns and people die.

Latest report says that the motorbike involved was taken to the local hospital and is recovering.  The police will be questioning it as it is the only reliable witness that they have.  I am sure we all wish the motorbike (name withheld) a speedy recovery.

Well, I think it's an image of big cities anywhere. In my day it was the Krays, Richardsons and many other less organized gangs doing much the same thing. No doubt any Americans here could testify to their big cities. I would agree though that there seems to more of a 'cowardice' type of student rage here and a genuine confrontation would be avoided.

I grew up in the same city as you by the sound of it but I don't think the image is the same as the Krays or Charlie Richardson.  They ran organised crime whereas this is youths rampaging more akin to football hooligans or in my day mods versus rockers!  Happens everywhere and always has, even in the small towns.  However the swords are a bit over the top!

Yep, you're right. But where I lived rival gangs were many and would use all sorts of self made weapons (large nails flattened by railway locomotives and sharpened were a favourite). But the difference there was they didn't run away from each other and it was usually blood everywhere.

The video is very clear, should be easy to find the animals.

The solution is easy. Give them a police record and expell them from school with no appeal.

Easy.

Won't take too long before either the schools are empty or there are no more fights.

Quite a stupid solution as it would mean without any other option many would just turn to crime on the general public.

I wasnt blaming them as such, i was pointing out that they are certainly not helping with their "like us at the end of a gun" functioning.

These are punk youth at vocational schools with zero interest in history warring over turf and image that didnt exist even a few decades back, drawing a line back centuries IS stretching it.

True.  I guess the bravado in Thailand is not as bullish as it was back in the west.  The mods and rockers thing was as much about socialising as fighting though.  Weekends in Brighton enjoying the sun, sea and nights in A&E.

Time to bone up on your Thai social history.

Typical liberal flip-flopping. They'll play whatever tune fits their agenda.

There is clearly an issue with Thais when it comes to forming large groups and becoming violent. Since the Junta isn't going to leave until they are ready, why let people riot and destroy the place?
